I prepared myself for a confrontation. I'd left this morning without resolving anything. I was sure my dad would beat me up for this one.

I heard a few sirens, but brushed it off.

When I got off the bus and turned around the street corner, my heart dropped.

There were police and medics around my house.

I rushed over to them.

"What's going on?"

"Who are you?"

"I'm Roan. I live here! What's going on?"

"Do you have your ID?"

"I've got my students pass."

"Okay, show me."

My hands shook as I grabbed my wallet to get my pass out. My head felt hazy.

'What if my parents are injured?'

I handed the policewoman my pass.

"Oh dear. I'm afraid to tell you this."

"Are my parents okay?"

"They unfortunately passed away."

My head started spinning.

She grabbed onto me and guided me to a police car.

Tears were streaming down my face as I started to shake.

"Get the boy some water!"

She turned to me.

"Please-please, don't touch me."

She lifted her arm and took a step back.

I shivered and tried to grasp onto reality.

'They're gone. They're gone and I'll never get to apologise. I'll never get to make up with my mom. Mama, why was I so difficult? Mama, why did I have your temper?'

I stared and stared. I must've been out for sometime, because the policewoman snapped me out of it.

"Hey, you've had some time to think. Would you like some water?"

"No, what happened?"

"They were possibly murdered. That's what we suspect."

"Jesus fucking Christ."

"Is there anyone who would want to hurt them?"

"Loads of people."

I dried my tears and fixed my hair.

"My mom is quite aggressive and my dad isn't very patient."

"Could you give me a list of names?"

"Tomorrow. I need to think about this."

"Of course, do you have anyone you can stay with?"

"I'll go to my friend's house."

"No family?"

"Fuck no."

She smiled like an adult that wants to tell you off for cursing, but is secretly amused.

"Okay, here's my number. Please call me if anything is up or if you remember something important, yeah?"

"Yes, ma'am."

"Should I give you a ride to your friend's?"

"I'm good, thank you."

"Be careful out there, yeah? Stay strong, kid."

I left the car and walked over to Rhett's house.

I knocked on the door and thankfully Rhett opened.

"My parents are dead!"

I snapped out of my thoughts.

"Cerberus, we're all out of everything. Can you come with me to the grocery store?"

"Why can't Botu go?"

"Because he just left. Didn't you hear him?"

"No, you fucktard. Why would I have suggested that if I heard him leave."

"You're so goddamn rude. Come over here."

"Fuck you!"

-

"Mama?"

", mi amor?"

"Where dada?"

"He's uh. He's gone, nene."

She stroked her son's cheek.

"When is he coming back?"

"He's not."

"Why not?"

His eyes started to tear up and so did hers.

"Someone took him away."

"Why, mama?"

"I don't know."

She held her son. She whispered a prayer while her son cried on her shoulder.
