RAIN PELTED DOWN UPON THE SELECTION OF TROUBLED YOUTH AS THEY LINGERED OUT IN THE COURTYARD, all kinds of different questions brewing in their minds with the hope that they would soon be answered. Mallory's eyes warily flickered around, noticing that all the people she had come to know had showcased the same level of confusion as she had. Not one of the teenagers had been calm throughout these last fleeting moments, in fact, all displayed a heavy cautious attitude as if they were predicting that what followed next would not be pretty.

She had been sleeping almost soundly when the piercing echo of a gunshot and then shouting sounded. So, like all other occupants of this school, she had sprinted outside into the courtyard to see what had been the source of such noise. It was shocking when she found her brother caught in the limelight, and remembering their past argument she scowled in his direction. She wasn't the only one wreaking havoc it seemed.

Mallory couldn't help but take one courageous step forward, lifting her head proudly as she faced her twin brother. Blood had been smeared on one half of his face and his eyes were widened as if he had seen something truly horrifying down in the basement. Rosie was standing behind him, a defensive growl erupting deep in her throat, meant for anyone who wasn't Marlon at that moment. Mallory couldn't recall a time when the pitbull had presented such a hostile nature towards her, and for the first time, she feared taking one more step closer.

A loud crackle of thunder boomed overhead, causing Mallory to slightly jump. Louis unconsciously placed his right hand upon her trembling shoulder to assure the blonde that everything was okay. No matter how many times it had rained this heavily, even before the world had plummeted into chaos, the young teenager remembered always holding a particular distaste towards the melancholic weather. Thunder had reminded her of yelling, which had been far too common in her family home growing up. She would never grow to love such a weather pattern, that much she knew.

Within the next moments, Marlon's situation was no longer the present thought within everyone's mind, as far too quickly AJ stepped forward and past Mallory and Louis. His gun was raised confidently, such an image bizarre and Mallory couldn't fathom just how conditioned the world had made younger kids. They possessed such weapons without an ounce of fear. She would've collapsed with the utmost fright if she was to brandish her own weapon at the age of five or six. However, nowadays, to be afraid of a gun was to perish, as most likely you were unable to fight to gain your survival. She swallowed thickly as she watched her brother become the target if AJ was to pull the trigger. She took one calculated step forward, but one step was all she could manage before Louis was preventing her from moving farther and possibly upsetting the young boy.
