──── Mallory Thompson

THE EARLY MORNING SUNLIGHT STREAMED IN THROUGH THE VARIOUS CRACKS AND CREVICES OF THE OLD SCHOOL BUILDING. Mallory climbed the grand staircase leading to the old Headmaster's office, but it was now Marlon's bedroom. Her fingers grazed the splintering wood on the wall, the uneven texture poking into her calloused skin.

Even if she had the option to sit back and relax for an entire day, Mallory was convinced that she would still opt to distract herself around the camp or with hunting anyways. It was the only time when her mind could fully shut off, the nagging voices in her head turned down to a volume that was tolerable for the young girl. Her mind was always running rampant, something that drove her up the walls of insanity from time to time.

As she climbed to the second floor, her eyes caught sight of a still intact picture frame on the ground right outside the office doors. It was a school photo, something that Mallory never understood the significance of at the time. Now, looking at it while the rest of the world was silent made a particular sadness creep into her heart. They had lost over thirty-four of the troubled youth that resided behind these walls, not including the adults that had simply vanished upon the awakening of a darker world. While Mallory had never been close to more than four of the people pictured, it was haunting knowing that the souls of the dead lingered. Mallory always wondered why she was one of the lucky ones, as there had been several other people who had simply been at the wrong place at the wrong time, people more deserving of being alive today.

Pushing the thought from her mind, Mallory walked in through the doors, not bothering to knock before entering. Her eyes widened, however, when her gaze fell upon two individuals who were definitely not Marlon. Confusion plagued her consciousness, the emotion showing deep in her eyes on her otherwise completely neutral expression. Clementine and AJ seemed just as caught off guard as they had come expecting the eldest twin.

"Oh, hey," Mallory greeted, her hand running up and down her arm. "Where's Marlon?"

"Don't know. You'd know better than me," Clementine pointed out.

"You're right," Mallory laughed awkwardly. She crossed the room quickly, moving to stand beside the large glass doors leading onto a private balcony. She let Clementine and AJ explore the spacious room, knowing they probably wouldn't make it far if they stole something. However, from what Mallory had gathered about the pair so far, they didn't seem like people that would just flat out steal. If anything, they could've done it last night when everyone was sleeping.
