┏━━━━ CHAPTER TWENTY━━━━┓ ★゜・。。・゜゜・here in the ruin ──── Mallory Thompson

MALLORY WAS TALKING TO VIOLET WHEN CLEMENTINE AND AJ DROPPED DOWN FROM THEIR POSITION ON WATCH, a newfound urgency in their bodies as they quickly walked to the center of the courtyard. She frowned as she and Violet glanced at one another before heading over to join the gathering group. The nerves hit her dead on at this point, her stomach twisting as a lump grew in her throat every time she swallowed. This was it.
She wondered if they'd make it out alive tonight. Was there another tragedy awaiting them? And how would she come back from her heart being crushed once again? What if death was upon one of the lucky survivors? Heartbreak had rattled their group far too many times recently, and she couldn't convince herself that there was an end in which they all lived to see another day.
She scanned the circle of people she had come to know for the past nine years since she had arrived at this school with Marlon. Did they all have the same fears as she did? Were they counting down the moments until they took their last breath? There were only two that she knew beyond what they displayed for the world, yet to lose anybody would be a bigger detriment than she had previously believed. Death was capable of touching your heart even if you barely knew who had died. And she was not keen on burying another person six feet under the ground.
She stood between Louis and Violet trying to rid herself of the lightheaded feeling that had swept through her. Her legs almost buckled beneath her, the jitteriness in her stomach relentless. She had a horrible feeling and she wanted desperately for it to dissipate. As much as she appeared to be brave, it was just a facade. The deep inhalation she took did nothing to kill those damned nerves. She'd have to fake her confidence in the whole situation.
"We're ready," it was Omar that spoke first, much to Mallory's surprise.
"They've got at least four more people, all carrying guns. And carts, probably to carry people away," Clementine explained and Mallory felt sick when she remembered exactly why they were getting prepared to fight in the first place. Comments of uneasiness filled the area and every time Mallory looked into the eyes of one of her friends she noticed that they reflected the fear she felt deeply. It made her feel less alone. Clementine continued when everyone had their share of announcing how much they hated the situation. "If they get inside, I'll keep them focused on me. That should give Willy and Mitch time to set up the bomb. "
"I'll set it under those carts," Mitch said. "It'll work. I promise."
Clementine nodded, "If they manage to get in, we fall back."
