THIRTEEN
"Now, class, I want you to read chapter eight of The Outsiders. When you completed that, answer the questions on the sheet on your table." Ms Dawson commanded. "I want dead silence."
Then, everyone cracked open their books.
After a while, Jess and Skylar could hear some snickering from behind them, but they chose to ignore them.
The snickering became louder and louder. "Michael." Ms Dawson raised her voice. "Care to explain why you are talking when I said silence?"
"Um, sorry, Ms Dawson." Michael quickly replied.
"You know, I've been hearing too many sorry's from you lately, especially because you keep talking. And because you love talking so much, you can read the first page of the next chapter for us. Out loud." Ms Dawson fired back, instructing everyone to go to the next chapter.
"Ms Dawson, can't you give me a different punishment like detention or going to the principle?" Michael gulped. He looked quite nervous and terrified.
Jess wondered why Michael was so desperate to get out of reading in front of the class. It was only one page. How hard could that be, she thought.
"Nope. I want you to read." Ms Dawson demanded. "Hurry up. Page 131. Go."
Michael let out a shaky breath before he started speaking.
