Exploring My Surroundings: Meeting the Man with the Chelsea Smile

After meeting a couple of the residents here at the mansion, I was beginning to feel a bit more at home. I still missed my parents and always will, but I was at least beginning to feel a little less alone. I've only met a handful of the people here, but I know that I'll be meeting a lot more soon enough.

I got up, rising to my feet from where I'd been sitting for the past hour or so and brushed myself off. I felt tired, though I'd been sitting and now had a wicked case of numb bum to prove it; but I knew very well that if I didn't start moving, that I wasn't going to.

I turn to leave the room, waving good-bye to those who had joined me as I made my way into the hallway; walking shakily as I tried to get the flow of blood to return to my butt, deciding to step outside once again for some fresh air. I had to admit, it was pretty peaceful and quiet out here, or... should I say was?

"CAN SOMEBODY SLAP BEN?!"

I could hear Lazari's voice echoing through the forest and nearby surroundings. I squinted in an attempt to make out what was happening, both curious and cautious at the same time.

"Why don't you do it?" Asked Nina, appearing beside me.

I jumped, how does she do that? I thought as I caught my breath. I shook my head, I couldn't possibly hit him, I didn't even know the guy, why the hell would I hit him? "I mean... I would... but I don't want to be eaten." I said sheepishly.

"Ben's a Ghost..." Said Nina, "He can't eat you."

Duly noted, I thought. I could faintly see Lazari through the canopy of trees as her voice rang out again; I realized she wasn't alone.

"BEN, STOP HUGGING THE TREE!" She yelled out, slapping the individual that stood before her.

I bit my lip, suppressing a chuckle. Well... That's kind of harsh... I thought to myself; maybe he just likes trees or something. Nina roared with laughter as Lazari made contact with the figure.

"Lazari!" She cried out, laughing loudly, "Just leave him with the tree; he's obviously drunk off his ass."

I smirked, laughing as well as I watched Nina practically lose her shit; laughing hysterically at Lazari's interaction with Ben. "You know... If Nina was older I'd totally date her." I said with a chuckle, "But considering that she's actually technically a child, that would be awkward being that I'm 22 years old. I'd totally adopt her as a little sister though."

"Did you say something Amythest?" Nina asked, looking at me.

"Who me? ...Nah." I muttered, waving my hands dismissively in front of me. Groaning, I thought to myself, I really got to stop saying my thought out loud. Actually, on second thought, I gotta stop talking to myself in general.

I continued to stand beside Nina, observing the scene between Ben and Lazari; though I have yet to actually meet this fellow, I had a pretty good feeling that he'd be the comedic relief of my new home. The sun was still shining above us and I could feel its heat radiating over my body; I began to feel restless yet antsy at the same time.

I wanted to meet more of the people or creatures that resided here and I knew I wouldn't really achieve that if I simply stood in one place. However, with that being said, I wasn't quite ready to return inside.

"Well..." I said, more to myself than anyone else, "I won't meet anyone else if I keep hanging around here." My words were soft and calm, I had already drawn attention to myself for babbling like an idiot that I no longer really cared if anyone around me actually listened or paid attention; though they can listen in if they really wanted to, I wasn't going to stop them.
