Dahlia braced herself as she prepared herself for the news she was about to deliver to the Alpha. But what she hadn't prepared for was the reaction that he would soon have. She took in a deep breath as she curled her fingers into a fist and gently knocked on the door.
"Come in." She took in another deep breath as she opened the door and slowly walked inside and shut the door behind her. "What is it?" He asked coldly. Dahlia twisted the fabric of her gown in her hands as she tried to piece together what she was going to say to him.
When she had continued to remain silent, the Alpha turned around to look at her, his dark eyes staring straight at her as if he were piercing her very soul. "Well? Did it work or not, girl?" Dahlia sighed and shook her head. "No, I'm sorry, it didn't work again..." She sighed again.
"I'm afraid that Amelia is barren." The Alpha's brows furrowed in anger, "what do you mean she's barren?" Dahlia licked her dry lips and swallowed. "I've used every tonic I could think of to help her and none have worked." The Alpha stepped towards her with a growl.
"Then use stronger ones!" He snarled through his teeth, his anger rising with each passing second. Dahlia took a small step back, her heart beginning to race. "I've given her the strongest of them all and still nothing, her womb is empty, barren. She cannot conceive nor will she ever... I'm sorry, there is nothing more than I or anyone else can do."
The Alpha roared, he took another step forward grabbing one of the chairs nearest to him and tossed it across the room as he shouted in anger and pain. Dahlia flinched as the chair crashed against the wall, breaking into several pieces.
She quickly turned around and rushed out the door leaving the Alpha to destroy his room in his fit of rage. As she ran down the hall, she could hear the sound of objects being thrown across the room and slamming against the door and walls. Sounds of loud crashes could be heard throughout the cabin as he continued to scream and shout.
Dahlia burst through the door of Alec and Ara's bedroom catching them both off guard as they sat on the bed side by side immersed in a private conversation. Alec was the first to stand in a defensive stance. "We need to leave now!" She shouted. Alec nodded his head realizing the situation without it having it to be said.
He moved through their room quickly gathering the belongings they had packed prior and turned back to look at Dahlia. "Go get what you can and hurry." Dahlia shook her head. "We don't have time for that. We need to leave now!" Alec sighed in frustration. This was happening far too quickly, no amount of preparation had prepared them for this, even if Alec knew his father would go mad if he knew that Amelia still had yet to conceive.
"Fine, we leave with what we have on our backs. I have packed what I could, but we will have to make do." Dahlia nodded her head and helped Ara put on her cloak. Alec tossed a spare to Dahlia as he put on his own and placed their sack on his back as they hurriedly made their way out of the cabin not wanting to waste any time in their escape.
This escape would surely test their resolve. This sort of escape was the riskiest as they were leaving in broad daylight and while the Alpha's mental state was at its lowest. The man was no longer thinking straight and would do just about anything to make sure they never left.
Back at the cabin, the news of Amelia's barren womb traveled through the house like wildfire through dry land, scorching all in its path. Paul quickly made his way to the Alpha's room to try and calm him knowing well enough that nothing would or could console the enraged Alpha.
Amelia lay on her bed, her eyes staring up at the ceiling as tears spilled down her face. How could she not be able to have children? How could it be possible? She was so young if anything she should have been the most fertile aside from the slaves. Every other female in the house was much older and no longer able to bear children or just didn't want any.
