Alone I am so broken
So empty, so mediocre
Alone I can only come partway
Alone I am weak and cold
So purposeless and void
I am not beautiful,
Instead of flowers I wear shame
Alone I have no peace
Alone I am insignificant.
When you come I am all you need
You fill me up
You make my effort enough
You carry me when I cannot walk
When I'm lost and sad
You tell me I'm a thing of beauty,
And you crown me with love and grace
You delight me with your roses
And fill my heart with purpose
You make me powerful
And to you I have never failed to matter.
To you I mean everything
Though I be but small
To you I am worth diamonds
Crowning my neck and head
You lavish upon me gift after gift
And walk my path alongside
Hand in hand for eternity
So I am not enough
But with that truth I couldn't be happier
If I were enough
I wouldn't know you
If I were beautiful alone
I wouldn't wear your jewels
If I had all the strength I need
I wouldn't be held in your strong arms
I'm not enough and overjoyed
For my lackings are fulfilled by love
Love I would never know
If I were enough alone.
