Love, when true
Is surprisingly ordinary
The littlest touches
Of authentic intimacy
Mean so much more
Than a thousand kisses under fireworks.
It's saying goodnight
And "I love you"
Before bed every night
It's pumpkin and chocolate chip muffins
For no reason at all
Eye contact and a million memories
Love enables
So both can fly high
Thriving on support and faith
In each other
That never flickers and fades
Even in distance and disaster.
Love, real love
Is a launchpad for dreams
Partners in crime
Best friends, lovers, soulmates
All in each other
Committed to forever.
Love is quiet
And adoration for normal
Love is two cups of cocoa
Love is reading books
In the same bed
Love is not extinguished by the ordinary
True love doesn't
Need manufactured moments
Or countless offerings and gifts
It's not fleeting passion
It's lasting attraction
And emotional connection.
We associate love
With our hearts
So why does any surface matter
When the heart and soul
Are the most important
And layered of all?
