Metamorphosis

A massive change

Is not impossible

A growth

A transformation

It's the cycle of life

Never shall I ever

Be a static woman

For more than a moment

Change is the air we breathe

The rhythm hearts beat

Change is inevitable

And a bridge for all to cross

Change seldom

Leads first to ideal places

But bridge

After bridge

Shall we meet

And one day

The bridges will lead

Somewhere beautiful.

A caterpillar

Must dissolve to mush

Enduring the crucible

Of total destruction before recreation

Of nothingness

Within inches

Of ceasing to exist

Only after it has come

To the point of being nothing

Does it turn around

And begin becoming everything

No one could have imagined

A caterpillar

And then mush

Could be

Such is metamorphosis

Radical, painful

Inches from ceasing to be altogether

Such is metamorphosis

That when all seems to be nothing

From nothing springs forth the unbelievable

The crucible is a dark place

Indefinite, lonely

A lightless world

Of limitless grim possibility

To the crucible

Come those many

Who are naïve

And untested

From the crucible

Exit finely molded creatures

Great and small

Whether it is their first forging

Or nearly their last

Before departure,

Caterpillar after caterpillar,

Innocent after innocent,

Pass through the fires

Of testing, pain, and trial

Emerging as

The finest, most delicate

Most resilient

Most unbelievable

Miracles.
