I suppose a new collection
Doesn't mean that all is perfect
A page turned, lessons learned
Indeed, good, but not even the happiest
Have their lives together
I still lay awake to ponder
How can I feel so aimless?
Why, when in fine company
With everything I could ever wish to possess
When I am free and fresh
Why do I feel so worthless?
I have everything, I am blessed
I have it all, except joy authentic
On paper it all adds up to bliss
But emotion and longing are forgotten factors
Why do I have everything
Except the one thing I really want?
Joy isn't found in anyone else
If it is to be wholly mine
I must be capable of finding my soul's joy
I must be able to manufacture
My own sunshine
But I am not as of tonight
Maybe tomorrow I will wake fresh
Maybe I'll find joy in the morning
But tonight, like the nights before
Feels empty and gloomy and lonely to the core
My life looks so full
But my soul is so empty.
