(Steve Rogers X Reader): Warning, sad mild fluff

Everyone sat in Stark Tower in the conference room all just sitting in a circle. Nobody understood how the hell it happened or what to do. All they could do was stare at the table or think to themselves on what to possibly do. I mean what could they do? Hydra had kidnapped a few of the avengers and all were released. The base was even destroyed and all 4 missing Avengers were returned in one piece. Except one of the strongest Avengers (the first) came back a little... different.

"Does anyone propose an idea on what we should do?" Tony was pacing back and forth rubbing his temple while you and everyone else thought about it. Not a single Avenger had a clue what to do, this was something they've never faced before. Even Tony wasn't sure how to even fix this, both him and Banner would have to run test results.

"I mean we practically destroyed everyone who worked on all Clint, Sam, Banner, and Steve. Except none of us expected them to turn Steve into something none of use would like to take care of!" Natasha stood up out of her seat and walked over to Tony's desk to grab the alcohol that sat there. You were the only one watching Steve as if something was bound to happen to him. "How about you Y/n? You knew Hydra best." Pausing you look over at Fury who eyed you cautiously. As if he figured you were still part of their elaborate plan. You kindly smiled in his direction and sat forward. "No offense Fury, but I'm no longer working for Hydra. And if you want to continue sitting there judging me on what I use to do. Then I'll gladly leave." You pointed to the door that was just on the other side of the room. Don't get it twisted you loved Steve and everyone else. But you hated that they all were wary of you. Steve and Bucky were the only ones who understood where you came from.

"Well I'm not so sure about all of you guys but I have worked to do, and I can't take care of a baby." The rest of the guys seemed to agree with Natasha and stood up to all exit the room. You were shocked that after everything Steve did for them they couldn't pitch in to take care of him. Even if it was for a while until they could change him back. "Wait your just gonna leave him here by himself??" Standing up you pointed to the baby boy that crawled around on top of the glass table getting dangerously close to the edge. Before you knew it he was falling off of the edge and with cat like reflexes you caught him just before he hit the ground. The fall must have scared him because now he was crying. "He isn't alone he's got you, besides the rest of us have work. You haven't been assigned anything until now." The only thing you could do was glare at Tony who chuckled at how protectively you held Steve in your arms comforting him as best you could. "We will look for a solution and when we've found one we will let you know. So just take him back to your floor and wait for further notice." The pure look of shock and disappointment covered your face as you could not believe that they just dumped him on you like he was scraps. He was the best of them all and they were willing to treat him like this? What a bunch of jack offs.

"Just peachy aren't they?" Turning around you saw Bucky sitting back in his chair. He seemed unfazed by how they reacted towards you. He also use to be a Hydra experiment but Buck never went through the extreme torture you endured. Lost memories and a metal arm wasn't nearly as bad as what they'd done to you. Most of your bones now were metal while your blood stream was filled with nothing but toxins that allowed you the ability of telekinesis and a death that never was to come. "Yea, sheer joy of you ask me." He only laughed lightly at your remark as he held his arms out for you to hand him Steve. After gently placing him in Bucky's arms the small child only began to cry lightly as the loss of you caused discomfort for baby Steve. Even the look of discomfort on Barnes' face made you wonder if he'd ever seen a baby. "You look lost Buck.." "He's so... small and fragile." You watched as Steve's small fingers wrapped around his metal finger. Buck could only watch as Baby Steve struggled in his arms. He wanted more than anything to help, but he knew nothing about babies. And to make matters worse he didn't want to cause him harm because the metal arm was to strong for him at times. He couldn't even remember a time when Steve was actually this small. "I hate not being able to remember anything before Hydra.. I only get glimpses of my past and even then I can't analyze them and recognize my memories as memories. He's constantly talking about memories we've made and he'll ask me if I know what he's talking about. And I just...don't. But I go along with it as if I do..." sadness was all that surrounded Bucky's aura as he continued staring and watching Steve mess with the metal arm. You could tell Bucky cared for him a lot, yet he didn't. It was strange how Buck worked, but you couldn't blame him because he went through nearly everything you did. Sometimes Barnes had to even ask you for help at remembering things because it was hard to keep track on everything. Shortly after about 10 minutes he turned to you and handed you back Baby Steve. "I won't be staying around for much longer Y/n and Steve is going to need someone to lean on. He may have superpowers but deep down he's just a man. He's human like you and I, he has weaknesses just like you and I. I trust you enough to make the right decision to not let him come find me." He gave you a half smile and stood up to ruffle Steve's hair as he was sound asleep in your arms. "You know Buck, your a good man. I'd say I hate to see you leave us so shortly, but if it's leave you need I won't stand in your way. You of all know that he'll come looking for you. He sees you as his best friend, the one he followed into the fight. He's the one who never knew when to quit and never ran away from a fight. He's headstrong like you and for that I thank you for helping to make him the man he is today." Leaning forward you pulled Bucky into a hug as careful not to squish little Steve. But when you pulled away, the look on his face made you realize he was deep in though. "Buck?" He just stumbled backwards as he took a seat on the couch. Concerned as you were, you quickly set Steve down and rushed to his side. "Hey hey! Bucky? Buck?? Can you hear me?" The only thing he did was breath and stare off into the distance. This is when you recognized the tears that had welled up in his eyes began to fall. Whatever he was seeing or quite possibly remembering had to have been a memory. You'd never once not ever had seen Barnes cry as he was now. So instead of trying to pull him out of what he was seeing you held onto both of his hands as his face contorted. He just cried and cried until he sucked in a deep breath and looked at you. The smile that played on his face along side of the one that was frightening. However he let go of your hand and gently picked up sleeping Steve. That's when he pulled the baby in for a hug and cried even more than before only slightly waking the child. He eventually went back to sleep after seeing Bucky cry. The even more heart wrenching part was that Baby Steve reached his small hand up to touch Barnes' cheek. And it stayed there even while he slept.
