The sound of swords clashing filled the area as Virgil and I danced around the place lost in the fight. And boy did I mean lost. I finally understand why their Virgil found solace in this. It was so easy to just let everything go. All that mattered was the sword in my hand and the one fighting me. I melted into the madness of the battlefield and the voices seem to just... disappear. Virgil was not as skilled as he seemed before. I understood why though. This was all muscle memory for him. If that first life proved anything, it was his lack of knowledge. And that's fine. I never wanted him to have to fight like this anyway. I watched as he lunged. I quickly sidestepped parrying as I spun around, silently proud of my quick feet. Never fault a swordsman for learning dance.
I could see Virgil was getting tired. It was clear on his face so why... Why was he trying so hard? What does he get out of this? I spun again blocking his attempt to strike. I had this huge smile on my face the whole time. I was actually having a ton of fun. I could forget about the curse. I could forget about the magic and the Dragon Witch. I could forget about a Logical Patton and a Moral Logan, or an Honest Deceit, who's apparently named Cassidy. I couldn't help it. I was so lost in the fun of things I laughed doing a stupid little pose completely catching Virgil off guard. He stopped short as I just stood there laughing at him. It was nice... fun.
You're being stupid, Roman. My smile fell instantly and Virgil frowned. You're letting yourself forget the danger you pose. YOU COULD LOSE IT AT ANY MOMENT! I flinched hearing my mind scream at me and Virgil took a deep breath, launching at me again. I snapped out of it the moment his sword hit mine. I just smiled again pushing him back, as he groaned in annoyance. Look at him. He's totally fed up with you. I narrowed my eyes easily evading him without really paying much attention. What can I say? I've been in plenty of battles. To many...
You should stop this insanity. You're only going to hurt him. I mean come on! You are the one that fought against the Dragon witch, Roman. He stayed in his room blasting his music. When it comes to experience you have it in spades. Stop fighting him. He's just angry at you. Let him get his anger out. Otherwise, when will it end? You're just making it worse. All you ever do is make things worse. Even before all this. You caused him to duck out. Not Thomas. Not Logan or Patton. You did. You hurt him so badly he gave up.
"ROMAN!" My eyes snapped up hearing the growl. It wasn't Virgil, though this time. It was deeper, animalistic. And VERY familiar. Fear ripped through me as I looked up to see a large dark colored wolf hunched in an attack stance. Virgil stood behind it with this pained but stern expression, seemingly oblivious to the giant canine in front of him. It started to get closer and my anxiety burst through me like an inferno and I wined feeling my crystal burn against my skin. It was like something snapped in it and the wolf launched at me with this hatred. I just threw my hands up and felt the wind rush past me sending the wolf flying back into a tree. It cried out and I looked up hesitantly to see it slowly limping its way over to Virgil, who just stood there staring at the floor. I took a step forward and the wolf instantly started growling at me. It knows... It recognizes me. It has to... I felt anger boil up in me as the memory played in my mind. Of course, it knows it's me. IT FUCKING ATTACKED ME!
"Virgil!" Cassidy yelled out as the wolf went to attack again and Virgil looked up at me devoid of emotion. What is going on with him? The wolf growled again about to lash out and Virgil sighed. "Zero!" The wolf stopped short and looked back at Virgil confused. Virgil just shook his had and I watched as it walked over resting its head on Virgil's arm. "Sorry. I... I wasn't expecting that to happen."
"Are you two done yet?" Cassidy looked like he had enough. His hair was a total mess from him anxiously running his hands through it over and over again. I just stood there staring at the wolf. That's the same one that attacked me back at the mind palace. Now it's just cuddling up to him like he's his... owner. My eyes went wide as I stumbled back a bit, realization hitting me full force. Cassidy noticed the fear in me and frowned. "Roman..."
"I can't. Nope. Nuh-uh. Not gonna happen. That wolf scares the shit out of me." Virgil narrowed his eyes and I just started to freak out. "I will not... CAN NOT... be anywhere around that damn dog..." I tensed up hearing it growl at me again and Virgil placed his hand gingerly over it petting it softly to try and calm it down. "It hates me."
"Roman you're doing it again." Virgil sighed as I just glared at him. "Jumping to conclusions. Zero attacked you because I was upset. He doesn't..."
"He HATES me, Virgil." The wolf growled again as I took a step closer and Virgil looked down at it confused. "You just don't... He... Help me please, Caz."
"He is right, Virgil. Zero really doesn't like him." Virgil just rolled his eyes and I threw my hands in the air in frustration.
"This is ridiculous. Look... I don't know what the hell Zero is. I don't understand any of this AT ALL. But I am telling you, there is no way he hates Roman." Cassidy just sighed and I looked away. He doesn't like me because I'm the Dragon Witch. He knows I'm dangerous. Even if you don't. I just fell to the ground in exhaustion and smiled hearing Virgil freak out. I think I realized why he fought so hard. I looked over at him to see his wolf tugging on his hoodie trying to keep him away from me and I laughed causing Virgil to freeze and look over at me. He was trying to teach me a lesson. When I was fighting with him I wasn't Anxiety or Creativity. I was just...
Roman.
"Ok then, Cassidy!" I glanced over at the man and smiled as he rolled his eyes. "I think you should probably teach Virge a few things about whatever magic he may have, don't you." He groaned shaking his head and I laughed again. "I wasn't really asking."
"Yeah... I know."
