27. The End

Roman... He stood there staring them down like a demon and Virgil frowned. His image wavered ever so slightly. His scales would flash and disappear at random times until...

"I̵ ̴S̸A̵I̸D̶ ̸G̵E̷T̶ ̶Y̴O̵U̶R̸ ̸H̴A̵N̴D̴S̵ ̷O̷F̵F̴ ̶O̸F̶ ̸H̴I̴M̵!̶" The world shook as his form changed completely. His hand clenched into fists as a literal fire burned in his eyes. The air around him had turned into a blazing inferno matching what was undoubtedly his own rage. Emile just laughed. Roman... He did not. 

"I should have known." Emile tapped his nose and Roman's eyes narrowed. "Sensitive nose, my ass. I worked under the witches. I should've recognized dragon senses."

"B̶u̶t̶ ̵y̴o̷u̷ ̴d̵i̵d̷n̵'̸t̴.̶ ̵T̴h̸a̸t̵ ̷w̵a̵s̶ ̷y̷o̸u̸r̵ ̶m̶i̸s̶t̷a̶k̴e̸.̶" Roman growled as Emile grabbed the knife in Virgil's leg. Virgil couldn't hold back his whimpers as Emile yanked it out. "Y̶o̷u̷r̶ ̶s̴e̴c̸o̴n̶d̸ ̸o̴n̵e̸ ̴w̵a̵s̶ ̷h̸u̴r̴t̸i̶n̷g̷ ̴h̷i̵m̵.̴" Emile just smiled and Remy frowned looking between the two of them. "I̴t̵'̸l̷l̷ ̶b̴e̷ ̸y̷o̵u̷r̴ ̵l̵a̵s̴t̵.̶"

"Oh, will it now? You forget Roman. I worked under the witches." Emile's eyes went wide with blood lust so strong it turned the air thick. "I know all your weaknesses. I also know about you... Anxiety." He launched himself at Roman who just stood there frowning. "Your fear will be your end." Roman sighed somehow disappeared moments before Emile could land an attack. 

"I̸ ̴w̷a̴s̸ ̴w̵r̴o̴n̷g̴.̶" Virgil tensed up looking behind him to see Roman standing there. Roman narrowed his eyes as he glanced down and Virgil just smiled. He looked back over at Emile who was fuming and frowned. "Y̵o̷u̸r̴ ̶l̴a̸s̶t̶ ̶m̶i̵s̵t̶a̴k̸e̸ ̷w̴i̵l̵l̵ ̴b̷e̸ ̶u̵n̸d̵e̵r̷e̵s̸t̵i̵m̴a̵t̷i̵n̴g̵ ̶m̸e̶.̶" He held his hand out and you could see the air condensing around it. The blast fired at Emile, who put up a shield and just laughed. 

"You'll have to do more than magic to kill me, kid. I'm an ex-mystic." Virgil narrowed his eyes as he looked around only to spot a ball of black beside a tree. His heart literally shattered. Roman disappeared again and Virgil frowned as Remy just watched everything. It was almost like he didn't actually care at all. But he knew by the way Remy clenched his fists, he definitely cared. He was so enthralled by the fight that he didn't even notice when Virge started to crawl away. Good job, Virgil. Getting away from the bad guys. Making your way back to Lo and Pat, right? Wrong!

He basically dragged himself over to his wolf who just laid there in the grass. If he can get to him then... then... He can... He saw his tail move slightly as he got closer. Zero looked so broken. Whatever Emile did... Virgil froze seeing the blood that pooled out around Zeros chest and started to tear up.

"Zero... My poor baby." The wolf whined a little as he reached out gingerly placing his hand to his nose. He licked Virgil's fingers a bit before pushing his head in further. "It's going to be ok. We're going to be ok." Virgil frowned seeing his wolves form beginning to waver. He could feel the energy around the getting stronger as the familiar feeling of strength filled his bones. He knew this feeling because it's what he felt in his last life. Zeros form completely disappeared as Virgil's began to change. His fingernails turned into claws. His ears changed and his eyes turned yellow. Now isn't this nostalgic? He thought to himself as he smiled. He slowly stood up melting into the sound of the battle that surrounded him. Remy turned around just in time to see him smiling and his face lit up in fear. "What... you don't like dogs?"

"No actually." He pulled out a sword as he narrowed his eyes. Virgil did the same with a smile on his face. "I prefer cats."

"Pitty... We are man's best friend after all." Remy just laughed as he attacked him. Virgil never lost his smile. Not even as their swords clashed together creating a spark of energy. The wolven strength burned through him with fiery euphoria that made it hard for him not to even giggle. He was ecstatic. Lost in the nostalgia of the supernatural high he was in. Don't judge. You'd lose yourself in the strength too. Remy pulled back right before sending this blast of energy into Virgil causing him to flip through the air only to land on his feet bumping his back against Roman's.
