I stared at the book in front of me as my thought ran rampant. Roman... I can see. He knows I can right. I see his pain. I see how he grips that crystal so tightly his knuckles turn white. I can see the fear in him every time something happens. The table moving... The cup shattering in Patton's hand, Yeah I figured that out too. I clearly saw the smoke that rose from his feet at the gas station. I wasn't scared. Not of him. Not ever... Then again I didn't have long to think about it. Not when he... Not when I...
"D-Don't... D-Don't ever tell me i-it's over." I felt myself pull away before I realized what I was doing. Roman... His face... He looked like he was in so much pain. Pain because of me. I only seem to hurt him. I... I can't... I took a deep breath and smiled wide as he began to frown.
"You can't end something that never started." My smile never faltered. Not once. Not with what I was saying... and Not as this look of complete horror filled his features. "We don't... We don't work, Roman. We'd both just end up hurt if we were together." I looked away finally feeling the tears start to fall. "At least now you know we never will."
"Kiddo?" I could hear the sound of something sizzling. I could smell burning. I looked over to see Roman just standing there frozen. He wasn't even shaking anymore. He just stood there staring at me like death himself was behind me. The ground started to smoke around his feet and I narrowed my eyes in confusion. I watched as Roman started to walk away and my heart dropped seeing the footprints he burned into the ground as he walked.
"Roman?" I saw him tense up the moment I said his name. He hesitated for only a split second before breaking into a sprint. I ran after him stopping the moment my hand touched the cool metal of the door seeing him run off into the woods. "I'm... I..."
"Virgil?" I looked back to see the other staring at me and I frowned. Logan just smiled as he reached out to rub my arm reassuringly. "He'll be ok he just..." My whole body tensed up like I was submerged in icy water. My eyes went wide and Logan slowly dropped his arm looking confused. "Virgil?"
"Do you hear that?" A smile grew on my lips as the others started to get visibly worried.
"Hear what..." Patton started to try and move me away from the door but I just kept looking out by where Roman ran off.
"The music." I whispered slightly feeling slightly giddy and more than a little lightheaded. It sounded so sweet. I was like it was calling to me. Like... Like it was only being sung for me. I wanted to hear more. The song seemed to seep through me as my mind slowly fogged over. I tried to pull my hand out of Patton's. I wanted to go. I needed to go. To follow the song... They're singing for me. I have to...
"Virgil?!" I punched Patton right in the gut causing him to let go as he fell to his knees coughing. I hesitated for a moment. I mean I just... I looked over at my hand in confusion as Logan tried help Patton up. Why did I... The song got louder and my eyes snapped back towards the wood with a huge smile on my face. Right... I have to join them. My feet started moving following the pull through the trees, as the sound of Pat and Lo melted into the background. The song filled my ears beckoning me to follow. My heart was racing. My head felt light. I felt light... like I was flying.
'Virgil...' My smile got even wide as the sound of his voice reached my ears. 'Virgil...'
"Roman?" I looked around seeing something run through the trees. My heart started to race even more. "Roman!" I ran after him as his laughter just filled my ears mixing with the melody just right sending my mind reeling. Every time I thought I would catch him I'd hear him giggle and laugh somewhere else and I was right back to running after him. It was a game of tag you'd play as kids. I ended up in this clearing. I barely saw anything though. All I could hear was Roman humming softly. It hit my ears and I turned to see him smiling at me. He spun around taking my hands as he slowly led me towards the water. He looked so happy. So very... The cold water soaked through my shoes and Roman's eyes lit up.
'It's just us, Virge.' His voice was so soft... so sweet. A song of its own as he hummed lightly leading me further into the water. 'We can be together forever. Just you and me... My love.' The water reached my knees when I felt someone pull me back out. I glanced up to see a worried look I knew all too well. He looked so different... He looked... He looked like the dragon-witch. No... He was the dragon which but those eyes. I'd know them anywhere. They were glittering softly with unshed tears as I reached up toward him with a smile. Roman... I'd never forgot those eyes. I'd... 'Virgil?' I looked back at the water to see the 'other' Roman staring at me with outstretched arms. 'Don't leave me.' I felt as the one hold me picked me up and held me cautiously close to him. I could feel the warmth radiating off of him. He felt so... So warm. So safe... I could feel him start to move when my body tensed up on its own. 'VIRGIL!' Screams fill my ears as the black pulled me under. Even still... I wasn't afraid. I felt safe like that in his arms. Those eyes watching over me with nothing but love filling his gaze.
I thought it was a dream. I thought I imagined it. But as the days went on the fog cleared from my mind and all I could see were those eyes. Even if they looked so different... Even if he looked so different...
I would always recognize those loving eyes.
"VIRGIL!" The sound of an explosion ripped through the air as I was thrown back. I was dazed. More then dazed. I hardly even felt the crawling in my skin... the burns and the invisible pins that pressed against them. "Shit Virgil!" I groaned and coughed against the smoke and smell that filled my nose as I slowly sat up. Cassidy just ran over to check me over. "Are you ok?"
"What happened?" Cassidy started freaking out and I just laughed.
"You were trying a fire spell and got lost in your thoughts." I winced feeling the burns bad and I frowned. "Roman is going to kill me." He cringed at himself and I just laughed again.
"You just said a lie, Cassidy." He glared at me and as I slowly got up. He watched with worried eye before sighing and picking himself up.
"Let's call it a day. Ok Virgil?"
