25: The Servant

I gasped for air and coughs, I got up and saw myself soaked in water while my wounds couldn't heal by itself. I groaned and saw myself beside the river and beside me was Sooyoung. My eyes widen and went over her quickly.

"Sooyoung!" I called her but she isn't responding, I took both of her shoulders and shake her, "Sooyoung! Wake up!" I shouted and that's when she opened her eyes slowly.

"My q-queen..." She spoke in a low voice, I saw that she got shot on the chest. "Don't worry, Sooyoung, you will be okay! I promise!" I told her, trying not to lose my hope and get up from the ground.

But she grabbed my arm and I looked back at her, "S-stay here with me, T-taeyeon..." she spoke once again.

"But you're hurt, I can't let myself see you like that!" I shake my head as I tried my best to hold back my tears. "I was the one who should caught her shot but why in the world did you do that?!"

"Because... you two are precious to me."

I breath sharply as I heard what she said before slowly looking up to her, "B-but why?!" I asked her again. Then she gets something from her pocket and gave it to me, a rock of... diamond?

"W-what's this?"

"It was from her..." Sooyoung answered and enclosed my hand, "Behind her vengeful facade... she is still the Miyoung that I used to know, she is like a diamond... she-she is strong and pure." then she let out a weak laugh.

"She threw it away... but when I gave it to her, she didn't need it. But I know she always want that this thing with her." 

I couldn't hold back and cries quietly as I listen to her.

"I might not able to convince her, but I know you can, you have the princess's words and she will probably change her mind."

She breathes heavily and tries her best to cling one last moment to life, "I guess this is it..." she coughed and holds my hand tightly as she looked at me straight into my eyes. "Tell her, I never changed even after I became a vampire... Tell her... Tell her that I will be always by her side. I... I have faith in you, Taeyeon..."

Then she closed her eyes and her hand fell from mine, unmoved not a single twitch. "No..." I shake my head and hold her hand, I saw her hair began to fade its color and became white. "Sooyoung..." I sobs and hugged her body.

I felt something inside was going to burst in any moment but I tried to hold it back, I sobbed hard as I still hugging Sooyoung.

Then I uncontrollably shout and something came out of me. It is changing me into something...

something that I'm afraid of.

Then I went unconscious...

"Taeyeon-ah."

"H-hm...?" I opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was Sooyeon, wearing a white hanbok and smiling at me. "P-Princess Sooyeon?" I got up and looked around, there were beautiful flowers and trees surrounding us.

"W-where are we?" I asked her as I looked at her face, she is still looking young as ever. I missed her. I missed her so much.

Sooyeon smiled and looked at me, "We are in the paradise, you promised me that you will take me here." she answered. "Paradise?" I was dumbfounded then look around, I never thought this is the paradise that I promised her.

It is so beautiful.

But there is one thing that is still around my head...

"I have been waiting for you, Taeyeon. I waited for you to come back to me." She told me and holds my hand, her hands are warm and soft, I missed her touch.

"Princess." I could not hold back my tears and hugged her tight, "I... I thought I lost you. I thought I--" Sooyeon hushed and cupped my face before wiping my tears. "How can I be lost when all along, I am always by your side?" she told me and still smiling, I can see her eyes were teary already.

I looked down and hold her hand, caressing it gently, "You changed, did you not?" Sooyeon asked me before I looked at her again. "Your hands are cold and your skin became pale, and your eyes... they were not the same eyes that I used to look on." she frowned as she looked on my hands.

"I-I'm sorry, Sooyeon-ah." I apologized and scratched my nape, "It changed the way I look upon the world too," I gave her the reason. "Eventually, I ruined everything that your father had built, because I was harboring hatred towards your father..."

She only went silent before sighing moments later, "We cannot change it now, Taeyeon." Then she smiled again before standing up, still holding my hand. "So, let's go?" Sooyeon seemed excited and starts walking towards the light.

But...

I looked down then let go of her grip and Sooyeon stopped before looking back at me, "Taeyeon? What's wrong?" she asked.

Then I looked straight to her eyes, "Sooyeon-ah, we might not change the past but... I have to stay for now." I told her before she frowned again. "Why? Tell me."

"It's about your sister, Miyoung. She was walking in the wrong path and I have to convince her not to do the same thing that I did in the past. I have to save her from... herself. From her own hatred." I clenched my fist before looking at it.

Sooyeon seemed to understood a bit of what I meant, looking at her, it made me feel a sting of pain looking her face down. I sighed and walked closer to her before kissing her for the first time in many centuries, I closed my eyes and cupped her face before smiling at her.

"Can you wait for me a little bit longer?" I asked her as I look to her eyes one last time, "I will save your sister, then I will get back to you."

She nodded and raised her pinky finger, "That's a promise then?" she said before I linked my pinky finger on hers. "A promise." I agreed before hugging her again.

"I love you, Sooyeon-ah." That made her smile and answers back, "And I love you more, Taeyeon-ah."

I pulled away and waved at her before walking to the opposite side. Something pulled me by force and then--

I woke up again and opened my eyes, then looked around. I'm in a room, its structures are wood and fiber and felt my wound still not healing and was bandaged well.

Then I heard the door opened and saw a woman coming before she noticed and quickly closed the door. That woman must be shy. I heard her calling the others before going inside the room.

She bowed before walking closer to me, "Hello, unnie. How are you feeling now?" she greeted and asked my condition. "I am feeling a bit better--" I was going to look behind my back when I noticed my hair became gold.

I became confuse and looked at the strands of my hair, "Can I ask? What happened to me?" I asked the woman beside me. "You must have been chased by them and became unconscious when we found you..." then she looked down, "And your other friend."

"Other friend? You mean Sooyoung?" She gasped and got up from the bed, "Where is she? I want to see her!" I became desperate, still hoping that she is still alive. Then I walked out of the room, "Unnie, wait!"

I stopped in my tracks when I saw her face again, in disbelief, I stepped back. "No, it can't be."

In front of me, is the one that should be long gone.

"Yerim?" I mentioned her name before she bowed in front of me. "My queen, it has been a while."

This can't be...

How is she alive?!
