"Are you hungry, kitten?" Riley asked me. He looked up from his paperwork, his kind eyes boring in to mine.
"No," I shook my head and continued twiddling with my thumbs. Just as he was about to reply my stomach then grumbled loudly and Riley chuckled.
"Come on, I'll make you a sandwich," he offered and stood up. He walked round his desk and held out his hand for me to take. I slowly grabbed his hand and he effortlessly pulled me up out of the chair.
"Okay," I sighed in defeat and walked along beside him, out of his office and down the long, empty corridor leading to the rest of the house.
"Alpha, Alpha!" A little girl came running up to Riley and he let go of my hand, letting the little girl jump up in to his arms. "Who's this?" She asked delicately, her little face pondering with excitement.
"This is your new Luna, Blair," Riley looked at me and smiled.
"Hi." I waved at the girl and then thought for a moment. "What's your name?"
"My name is Sapphire." She grinned and jumped out of Riley's arms.
"Well that's a pretty name," I smiled. She giggled but then furrowed her eyebrows.
"Why are you so skinny?" She asked, clearly confused.
"Saph--"
"It's okay, Riley." I cut him off and bent down to her level. "Because in my old pack I was too busy cleaning and cooking for everyone else that I never had my own time to eat." I told her and stood back up.
"And what are those?" She pointed to my waist. I looked at Riley and saw that his eyes were glued to my waist.
"Oh, that's nothing," I faked a smile, hoping she'd believe it and slightly tugged my trousers up.
"Okay!" She grinned and skipped off.
"Come on, I'm hungry.." I said to Riley, chewing on my bottom lip and quickly walked off to the kitchen.
"Blair." Riley's voice cut me from my thoughts of what I wanted to eat but I kept walking, knowing what he wanted to talk about and right at this moment in time, I didn't want to talk about it. "Blair." He growled, his alpha voice taking control of him and I paused, shuddering in my own skin. "Those marks." He said slowly, trying not to take his anger out on me. Though if he did it wouldn't make much difference to what my old pack did to me. "What are they?"
"Nothing," I waved him off and continued my walk to the kitchen but a firm grip on my arm pulled me back in to someone's chest.
"Don't play this bullshit game with me Blair," Riley spat, his canines in clear view. I looked down at the ground, my eyes welling up with tears. "Did you do them yourself?" I nodded shamefully, a single tear sliding down my cheek and on to the floor. I heard Riley sigh and he lifted my head up with two fingers placed under my chin, his thumb gently wiping away the tear that was now beginning to fall. "Who hurt you?" He asked softly. His canines had now disappeared and his anger filled eyes were now replaced with bright blue ones, sadness and hurt swirling in them.
"M-my old pack.." I muttered weakly. "I-if I was late cooking o-or didn't do what they wanted they would b-beat me.. They used me as a t-training d-dummy too.."
"Look at me," he demanded. I shifted my eyes from behind him and looked him in the eyes. "No one is going to hurt you, I promise." He said softly. "Myself and this pack won't let anyone touch you. They will do everything they can to protect their Luna." He leaned forward and rested his forehead on mine, "okay?"
"Okay." I nodded meekly.
