Chapter 24

I regain my senses and open my eyes however one of them stays shut from sleepiness. My mouth slightly parted as I yawn and stretch my arms, looking at my alarm clock. It was early morning as I layed there motionless. Did I feel like getting out of bed? No.......... But life is hard I guess. I groan as I pull of the covers letting the cool air hit my exposed skin. Dragging my feet along the floorboards, I reach the bathroom and take a quick shower letting the warm water refresh me. Soon after, I was dressed in a suitable outfit and walked out my room to be met with Chief sitting obediently outside my door. He soon smiled at me and stuck out his tongue as I gave him a pat. 

I got into the kitchen and made myself some breakfast before sitting down on the couch. I had a plate of waffles in one hand with a cup of orange juice in the other. I put my plate down taking my seat as I stared up at the TV screen, Chief also getting comfortable on the armchair. Putting his head in his paws, almost like going back to sleep again. Although, everything seemed peaceful, the worry I was threaten about seemed to appear more worse.

"Hello and Welcome! This is Chen Jae-Bong, from The News where you are. We have some important news for you today as we have gained more evidence about the myth of Mermaids. Do you believe they are real? Have a look at this footage we found." My eyes widened as I chocked on my orange juice making myself sputter, spilling a bit of the orange juice on my outfit. Carefully putting the glass down on the table, I stared at the screen hoping the "evidence" they found wasn't a give away. Although, hoping seemed to calm my nerves, the reality was not something I wished for. 

The screen lit up with some footage of a diver in a coral reef. It all seemed normal but the camera started shaking as if the Diver became scared. Making out through all the shaking of the camera you could make out a blurry tail, seeming like the one I have but the color was just plain baby blue. I take a deep breath as the news caries on talking about subjects that don't even matter. This may be worse than before. The mermaids don't even know about these pieces of footage which are making the humans suspicious. For the safety of our species, we need to stay hidden for a while. Stay out of spotlight so that humans can lose interest and stop searching. 

I look up at that clock on the wall showing 9:30 in the morning. I had planned to meet....... my brother, at 8 at night. It was winter at this time so it will be pitch black by that time. Perfect for going back into the ocean. Although, the humans were tracking us, I still felt more nervous over my brother. He was the same though, wasn't he? He hasn't changed. He left me.....  not even bothering to say goodbye. But I can't help that now. I have to do it for the kingdom. I shake my head, evaporating the negative thoughts as I feel a sniff at my hand. 

Looking down, I see Chief looking up at me in worry and caution. I smile down at him, as his concerned eyes die down. I pet his soft fur which make me seem more calm as I decide to get up with a long sigh, leaving my comfort. Remembering, I pick up the schedule that was placed on the desk in the hallway. 11am, Friday (New Song) Lyrics. I mentally face-palm at how forgetful I could. I'm really not in the greatest mood today, I think as I rub my still sleepy eyes which seem to be closing on me. 

Soon after finishing up, I head out the house. I head into the city, looking around still being fascinated by the sights. Everyday it seems to have new things and activities to do. And new people aswell. However, the humans all seem to hurry past or not bother admiring the sights as they don't understand what they have to treasure. Busy looking in a shop window, i run into someone and fall down. I sigh, why do I do dis? 

I look up to see a boy who widened his eyes in shock before looking down at me with a wide smile. And I mean wide. Light was like shining off him. I didn't think I'd seen a human that happy before but it was nice to see and warmed my inside from the bad mood I was in.
