I was wondering around the brightly lit streets of Seoul, looking at all the passing shops and people. My feet guided me to a street that I had never seen before.
The shops were filled with illuminating arcades that buzzed with loud music. When I walked past the arcade, machines and games caught my eye. There were things that I had never seen before and intrigued me, drew me into the big shop.
Looking around, there were games were it seemed you had to drive a car? Then there were ones you put coins in to knock down more coins, seems strange but ok. Another one that caught my attention was the most popular one. It seemed to be a new game as some boys were holding two fake guns. On the screen it showed zombies as their goal seemed to be to shoot the monsters. Other children seemed to be drawn in as they watched eagerly from the sidelines, cheering on the two boys, waiting for their turn.
Without thinking I walked over to a small machine with glass windows. Inside there were plushies of many different animals and characters, and a metal claw hung over them. I reached for my wallet, pulling some coins out before entering them into the hole in the machine.
The game instantly reacted, making the lights that decorated the machine flash in a variety of colours. Looking down at the controls, there was a small arrow pad with a red button at the side. Understanding what my aim was I looked back at the plushies focusing on the one that caught my eye the most.
I pressed the right arrow key, making the claw move over to the right. Pressing a few more of the arrows, it soon hovered over my selected toy. I smiled in success before pressing the red button which was flashing, urging for me to press it. The claw traveled down, the game letting out some weird sound effects.
The claw wrapped around the small plush before retreating back up. As it got to the top, it started moving towards a small box where the plush would be deposited out of the machine for me to collect. However, the plush was slipping from the metal and soon fell back into the pit of toys, as the claw dropped nothing into the prize box.
I sighed in disappointment. Addicted, I tried again but to accomplish the same results as the last. Just as I was about to start my last turn a tap of the shoulder interrupted me. I turned around to see a boy who smiled at me. He seemed to have vibrant blue hair like and his grin was a perfect box shape
"Can I try?" He asked me as I sighed, glancing back at the game which has got me irritated. I thought that it was worth a shot, seeing if a human had better luck.
"Sure, but I feel like it's unfair! Rigged!" I complain as the boy starts to press the arrow keys. "This one, huh?" He asks hovering over my favourite plush. I nod with a small smile as the claw seems to go down making the same weird sound effect. I put my hands up to my eyes not wanting to watch my money go down the drain by spending it all on this stupid game.
Although I kept my hands tightly up to my eyes, another pair of hands grabbed mine and pulled them down. I looked up to see the boy as he had the toy that I wanted in my hand. He seemed to be smiling widely. "Well done!" I say about to walk away to have him grab my wrist.
