Song: Falling Apart by Michael Schulte

Kierra's POV

I stare out onto the frozen ice, my fingers intertwining with Nathan's.

Once we were the Quad King and Queen, but two more young figure skaters arose to take our places.

Nico Chen and Kaci Chen.

The favorited pairs team, expected to win gold at the Olympics.

And also, my two children.

I watch silently as the pair prepare for their last, and final jump combination.

The quad axel.

In life, we learn to take risks, learn to jump through the pain and fly when it hurts the most.

We build our lives on the most unstable things sometimes, things like ice. Ice was the foundation of my life for such a long time. It was a foundation that was strong until it cracked.

Deadly, and sneaky, ice takes person after person, and it leaves behind the greatest scars and the biggest secrets.

Yet someday we learn to move on. Ice only last for so long, and eventually, we find shelter in solid ground.

We learn to start our lives, free from fear, and stress. And we learn from our failures.

Since 2018, we all wanted our redemption skate.

We didn't all get them.

I didn't get mine.

Yet we all have plans, our lives are specifically planned.

Through it all, we thought our burdens were too big, our cares to large, but we learned to let go. Learned to forget the past, and learned to start over.

We learned that there is no point to far in.

"Kierra?" Nathan asks snapping me out of my daze.

"Wha?" I mumble confused staring out into the rink where Nico and Kaci are skating.

"Nothing," Nathan laughs putting his arm around me.

I laugh fakely, leaning into him.

"Have you ever noticed how much Nico looks like Vincent?" Nathan finally questions staring at me. "Like common, you can't tell the difference between 2018 Vincent and Nico."

My heart pounds anxiously as I shrug.

Nathan must never know, he will never know.

"Luck," I mumble trying to hide my worries.

Nathan laughs staring out onto the rink, onto the place we once called home.

In a sense, the ice broke us, but it also healed us.

"Thank you," Nathan finally states.

I stare at him confusion on my face.

"For what?" I ask.

"Thank you, Kierra, for giving me a second chance."
