"Weissy, where are you taking me?" Ruby asked, worried by how isolated she'd been acting recently.
"Don't worry, I just.." The woman in white hesitated for a moment. "I thought I'd take you out tonight. Show you that I care..."
Ruby shook her head, smiling softly to herself as Weiss drove down the road. "I know you care, you dummy. You don't need to prove that."
Weiss didn't reply, frowning slightly as she pulled the car into a parking garage and guiding her girlfriend out to a nearby restaurant.
The moment they entered, a waitress brought both of them to a table by the window, a little paper placed on top that was labeled Schnee.
"A reservation? Really?" Ruby laughed. "You're really going all out, aren't you? Trying to impress me I bet."
"Yeah, something like that." She answered softly, pulling out a chair for the girl in the red dress.
As Ruby sat down, Weiss pushed in her chair and kissed the top of her head.
"You're too good for me." Ruby hummed, her hand reaching to play with ivory hair.
The woman standing behind her sighed. "You think too highly of me..."
She sat down, waiting for the waitress to come over and take their orders, a bottle of champagne being set down as they decided what they wanted.
Ruby smiled as she tapped her glass to Weiss'. "Ok, what is all this about?" She laughed. "This is a lot for 'just showing you care'."
Weiss chuckled at the girl, just for a moment relaxing. The next second she was guarded again. "You just mean a lot to me."
When their food arrived, the two women ate in relative silence, not speaking more than small talk here and there. Just as Ruby was finishing and realizing that Weiss had barely taken a bite, she knew something was worse than she thought at first.
"Ok, what's up with y~"
"I'm breaking up with you, Ruby."
The warm restaurant was frozen in time, windows practically frosting over as the girl in red fought to figure out what was just said.
"What..?"
Weiss looked down at her plate. "I love you, I do, but~"
"But you're leaving me..?" Ruby questioned. "W-why..? Did I do something wrong..?"
"No... No, never. Ruby, you're amazing, but..." Weiss looked for words, struggling to keep her composure. "But this isn't working out. We're very different people, with very different needs."
"So I just couldn't give you enough..?" She asked, trying to understand. "I-I thought I was doing alright..."
"You were. But you could... You could never fill my needs." Weiss explained, her eyes becoming detached and frigid. "I'm of a much higher class. My life with you couldn't stand up no matter how much we both worked for it to fit."
"So... It was all for nothing?"
"Yes..."
"And I would never have been good enough..?"
The woman in white was silent, refusing to speak for the minute at hand.
"That's correct." She finally replied. "You could never be enough, and that's not your fault."
"So... You're just leaving me..?"
"Yes."
Ruby was trapped in place as Weiss paid for their meal and stood to walk out. "I hope you come to understand..."
The rest of the night was drowned out as the girl stood up and ran out of the restaurant, tears threatening to form but never falling. She just ran and ran, never looking back until she could run anymore.
By the time she did stop, she was outside of anywhere she recognized, her lungs burning as she finally ran out of breath. The homes were all actual houses, slightly run down and warn through. A rougher neighborhood than she'd been in before, but she didn't care.
"Where're you off to, sweetheart?" A man whistled from across the street as she kept walking.
She passed a porch with a few guys sitting outside, all of them watching her. "Looks like someone got off at the wrong stop."
Ruby ignored them all, hurrying her steps until she could hear them following her.
"Leave me alone..." She begged, throat sore after sprinting for so long.
"We're just having some fun!" One of them shouted as they caught up to her.
The girl started trying to run again, but collided with a short, lean figure.
"She said she wanted to be left alone." The boy reminded, gently moving Ruby behind himself. "I suggest you back away."
Ruby looked at the boy, bright blue hair going in every direction in his spiky hair. He was wearing a tank top and red sweatpants, tucked into brown boots.
"Ok, twink, you may not realize it, but there are four of us and we are a tad bigger than you." The guy up front laughed. "What are you gonna do? Ask us to nicely turn around?"
The boy smiled, almost childish in appearance. "Nope, I already asked. Imma just stab you." He laughed, pulling out a long blade from his pocket.
The men hesitated for a second, looking to each other before turning back to him.
"You're crazy." The one in the front stated.
The boy grinned. "Absolutely."
Within a few seconds, each of the men backed away, not turning their gaze till they were far enough to run away.
The boy put away his knife and smiled over to Ruby. "They did have a point, you probably shouldn't be here."
