Nabi

The day auntie Aera told me who my real father was, was the day I met him. She even took me herself.

I thought Joshua would have been in shock like I was but no, he already knew. He's known all along. Even before I moved to Seoul.

"Why don't you come live with us?" Father asks as he joins Joshua and I on the couch.

The thought made me happy.

"We can even have your grandparents move here if they wanted to." He continues. "We'll be a big, messed up family."

"I would love that so much." I felt like crying. "There's just one more thing I have to do before I-"

"She wants to take revenge on Jun junior for toying with her feelings and pretending to be her brother," Joshua snitches.

I glare at him.

Father looks at me disapprovingly. "No, you're not going to get yourself involved with that boy or his family even more."

"You said he was evil! You both did!" I protest a little too angrily.

"Yeah," father nods. "That's why I forbid you to do anything reckless. They won't hesitate to kill you Nabi." Father looked like he regretted what he said as soon as he said it.

"W-what?" I was taken aback. "Why would they kill me?"

The two look at each other and then back at me.

"Tell me the truth," I pleaded. "I know my mother was involved with them but how? And why?"

Father sighs. "I'll tell you but you have to promise not to take action. If you do, I'm sending you back to your grandparents. Got it?"

"But-"

"Promise me." He looked so serious it was scary.

I nod in defeat. "Okay, I promise."

"Your mother was a part of a mafia clan called the Moon Mafia's."

I roll my eyes. "You're kidding."

"You'd wish he was kidding," Joshua pipes in.

"Everything I'm going to tell you is true, I promise." Father says. "While your mother was working in the clan, she was selected to be a bodyguard for the heir of the Moon Mafia's. They eventually fell in love and well that was that."

"It was Junhui's father, wasn't?"

He nods. "I came into the picture a lot earlier before that. When she was a first year at the university we went to, I helped her get adjusted. I felt like she might have liked me but I ignored it. Eventually I gained feelings for her too but by then it was too late." He pauses. "When I had lost all hope of us, she came to me one day. She had really deep feelings for Junhui but they weren't actually together so she doubted herself. I let her talk for a while, let out her feelings, had a few drinks and well..."

"In conclusion, you're a one night stand baby, just like me," Joshua says.

I didn't know what to think.

"She told me she regretted it the next day though," father chuckles out.

"When did she find out she was pregnant?" I ask.

"Probably about 3 weeks, close to a month after that," he sighs out. "After 2 months she was gone. She explained everything to me in person and said she left Junhui a note because she couldn't face him." He looks at me apologetically. "He was a good person too. He was careful with her while I was just pure selfish."

"Dad, I'm going to give you a piece of advice," Joshua puts a hand on our father's shoulder. "Wear protection next time."

That makes me laugh.

"Yah! How do you know about that stuff already?" Father looked a little alarmed.

"Dad, I'm 18..." Joshua takes his hand away.

There was one thing missing. "So how did my mother get caught up with the clan in the first place?"

Father thinks for a while. "Your mother's ability to fight got her noticed by Junhui's father."

The man I saw at 'Jun Junior's' flat...

"And because your mother had financial issues, she couldn't help but take his offer."

"Offer?"

"In exchange for her abilities, he paid her good money and also paid for her school tuition."

I was suddenly disgusted with myself. How could everything go so wrong for my mother because of... me?

"You okay?" Joshua asks me.

I shake my head slowly. "She's gone because of me."

"Yah! Don't say that, because of her I get to have a nice, caring sister," he pouts.

"Why couldn't she just-" That's when the tears came. "She could've just given me up, you know? She could've been perfectly fine without me."

Father puts his arms around me and my brother then pulled us both in. "That's the thing about family, we give things up for each other. We call that love."
