"We're here," Luke yelled, jumping up out of his seat and hitting his head on the roof of the car.
"Fail," I laughed, as he rubbed his head.
"Thats not nice," he mumbled.
We all scrambled out of the car and looked up in awe at the giant farris wheel that was slowly revolving in the light of the bright sun.
"Sweet."
"Epic."
"Awesome!"
"Come on, what are you waiting for?" I tossed my hair behind my shoulders and walked up to the counter.
Beau bought bundles of tickets, they were streaming out of our pockets, bags, everywhere.
"Beau, was that really necessary?" I slowly pulled the long line of tickets out from my jeans pocket.
"Yep," he smiled, his smoky green eyes sparkling.
"We'll use 'em all up!"
I handed 5 tickets over to a man behind a cart, and in return he gave me a big spool of cotton candy that reminded me of a cloud on a stick.
I took and lick and the sweet sugar quickly melted on my tongue.
"Give me some of that," Jai grinned, poking his tongue out expectedly.
I shoved the fluff into his mouth and laughed as he stood there with his mouth open, cotton candy stuck to his chin.
"Wow, I made you look even hotter now," I giggled.
"Thanks for that," he replied sincerely.
"No problem."
He licked his lips and the last traces of cotton candy evaporated.
"Lets go," I entwined his hand in mine and we walked off, losing ourselves in the midst of the carnival.
My stomach was churning from the long ride to the top of the ferris wheel, and I had the taste of hot dog still in my mouth, clutching a stuffed rabbit like a little kid that Jai had won for me.
The sun was a deep gold, blazing colors of fiery red and orange sunk into the horizon.
Sunset.
"It's beautiful," I whispered.
"It is," Jai came up from behind me and slid his arms around my waist, and I leaned my head against his.
A small group of birds headed towards the sun, settling into only inky drawings that faded into the sky.
Click. This moment would last forever. In my memory at least.
I closed my eyes and let my body relax.
"We better get going."
I felt Jai haul me onto his back.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and leaned my head on his shoulder as he piggy backed me to the car.
"I love you Jai," I murmured, my eyes forced open and then dazed off again.
"I love you too. Forever."
"And ever."
I slept most of the way back to their house, dozing in and out of sleep, finding my head resting in Jai's lap.
It was late when we got back, the stars, only slivers of white were scattered across the deep purple and blue sky.
Jai carried me to his room and gently laid me on his bed, softly singing me back to sleep as he crawled in next to me.
"Nothing will ever some between us.
Cause I'll be standing right next to you.
Right next to you."
