chapter 18 Confused...? (edited)

Hi everyone, I'm back with a new chapter, and the picture up top is simon. My best friend/ co author you could say drew it tayloneewolfspirit. She said she didn't like it, but I fell in love with it. It's a very good representation of the character.😆😆 other than Simons hair being longer from not being cut, and maybe a little skinnier because of malnutrition I think it's pretty accurate. Though he'd look a little younger because he's 9 1/2. Over all I'm happy with it.

I click my tongue while hearing the arguing in the living room. Geez, people these days, I have ears you know.

I was cooking a simple chicken noodle soup, with tea and honey. I was almost done with the soup when Fai came in.

"Simon there calling you suspicious, there annoying me." You could almost hear the annoyance in his tone.

My gaze softened. I let out a small, almost inaudible laugh. I pet his head. "It's alright, that's what I was going for either way."

He rubbed his head on my stomach. "I know, it's just I'm worried about you." I didn't speak for a second, I just kept petting his head. "I'll be alright." I said in almost a whisper.

I proceeded to finish the soup, and making tea in a soft hum of a song. It was a soft lullaby.

As I was getting bowls, and spoons etc. I heard a small knock on the wall. I look back, and see Evin. "Is dinner ready? No rush, just the others are getting rowdy." She says in almost a gentle tone.

"Oh yes, sorry for the wait, I'm just going to set up now." She's been the nicest one so far, and some part of me didn't want to be to rude to her. Of course my tone was still a little emotionless, but not cold.

She surprises me by walking up, and grabbing the bowls to bring too the table. I don't say anything as she does it. Fai stares at her.

I grab the cups, and silverware while walking to the table with her. I look at her. She has pretty red hair almost orange like a flame, with dark green forest eyes, hair was long going down towards her waist.  Kaden it similar, but his eyes were a bright green, almost neon. His hair was practically a short boy cut.

We were at the table with Fai near me setting up. Evin calls the other two to the table. They come to the table while I grab the soup pot, and tea kettle with honey.

I come to the table with a lot in my hands. I set it on the table. They look at me as I take a wooden ladle, and put there soup in the bowls. They stare at the soup. Before they say anything, I offer tea.

They seem surprised for a bit, but Evin smiles a little and nods. " Yes, thank you." The two respond the same way. Kaden said it softly, while Edrick said it with a surprisingly less amount of annoyance.

I wonder if it's a custom? Well, not my problem.

I pour some in each cup, adding honey in each. It was a standard green tea. My personal favorite out of any tea.

I sit down, and Fai sits on the ground putting his head on my lap. He gives me a message to save some for him later in my mind.

As I'm about to eat they all raise there spoons saying, " we offer this food, let us eat."

....What??? I didn't know what to say or do. I think I could have swirls in my eyes from confusion.

They look at me. I could feel cold sweat. I decided to copy them. "I-I offer this food, let me eat...?" Rather than my emotional coldness, this came out as pure confusion.

It was like a weird stare off of confusion between two parties. Not knowing what to do, and silently panicking I just played it off, and went to eat.

They didn't say anything, and ate as well. They seem surprised of the food, and quickly ate. They drank the tea too, and seemed happy. I ate half of my soup, leaving the rest for Fai later.

Through the whole thing nothing was said. As brought my bowl to the kitchen counter for Fai later. A went back about to clear the table, but they still were at the table.

I didn't know what was happening so I answered with, "what are you doing, do you need something." It came out coldly.

They looked at each other. Edrick spoke up before anyone else. "May we be excused?" It came with an annoyed voice.

I just guessed it was another cultural thing. "Sure?" I know it came out as a question, but nothing in the manual said anything about religion, or cultural table manners.

The confusion escalated further . They took the pot, and kettle to the kitchen to clean the dishes. ' WHAT THE HECK IS HAPPENING!!??'  I've never been more confused in my life.

I quickly stopped them, saying I can do the dishes. They themselves seemed to be confused. I ushered them out of the kitchen while I go to clean the dishes.

It took me around seven minutes to finish. It wasn't that long at all. It seems Fai was confused with there actions too. We were going to talk more after, but I was called into the other room by Evin.

I ran to see what happened. I looked, and saw Aedus awake, or better to put it half awake and confused.

He had a simpler appearance. He had brown hair with dark yellow eyes.  You could tell he was in his thirties. Not to young or old.

He was talking with Edrick. I was walking towards him when he looked at me. "Thank you for saving us. I don't want to think what would have happened without your help." He looked at me gratefully.

I felt a sting in my heart. This was the kindest, and warmest gaze I've gotten from a human since I've been  here. He had a warm aura, it reminded me of Mr.K a little bit. I almost choked on tears for a second.

Fai pushed his head on my stomach to snap me out of it. It was only a few seconds, but it felt like hours to me. "Yes, no problem. Your party can stay the night so you can fully heal."
I felt almost hollow saying those words. I was moving, thinking, speaking, but it felt wrong. My shoulders felt like there were weights on each with this sudden melancholy tiredness.

He gave me a bright smile. " Thank you again, do you have a place for them to sleep if it's okay?"

"Yes, I have an extra room for them to stay in, it's nothing amazing though. Also there's extra soup for when you get hungry." He seemed happy though regardless of my coldness.

I explained were there room was with mine. After that I informed I was heading for bed. I told them to knock on my door if they need anything.

I went to my bed room, I left Fai with them to watch. I still didn't fully trust them. I took off every thing getting into some pyjamas. I opened the window and laid in my bed. It was silent except for the wind howling.

It wasn't a harsh wind though, it was cool and comforting for my thoughts. I was a little tired it was pretty late. I stare at the ceiling not knowing how to feel. I keep feeling this phantom pain in my chest. It was painful in a way. It felt like I wasn't attached to reality.

I was just there listening to the wind, and where the only light was the moon. I felt surreal, but in a way some comfort. Even with that feeling of a hole being in my chest, the cooling breeze calmed me down, almost like a lullaby.

Before long I fell asleep, and for some reason had the most peaceful sleep I've had in a while.
