(Keely's POV)

I was so excited to find out that the boys did track. I may not be that good at it and I'll probably embarrass myself in front of everyone, but it's so much fun so I'm glad my friends will be there with me.

The rest of the day went by fast. Class was normal and before I knew it, the bell was ringing, signaling the end of another school day.

I made my way out of class and to the front of the school. I walked through the doors and saw Kai. He saw me and smiled. His smile brightens up my day. Kai is so sweet and genuine, I don't understand why Avery and even the boys have such a big problem with him. Oh well, I guess. He's my friend, not theirs.

I walked over to Kai and hugged him. We began talking about our day and just making small conversation.

"Hey Kai, I'm sorry about Avery, Nathan, and Jake. I know they are really weird and sometimes really rude. I'm not sure why but I just wanted to say sorry."

Kai chuckled and rubbed the back of his neck.

"It's okay, I've known them, or at least, known of them for a while now. They are seniors. That's just how they are. Nathan and Jake are fine. Avery is the one that gives me a little trouble but that's okay. He obviously had feelings for you."

I smiled at him and blushed out of embarrassment. "Yeah I guess he just gets jealous sometimes."

I looked up at Kai and a smirk formed on his face. He flexed his arms and then with a toothy grin he said, "I can't blame him, how can a 6 ft something teenage hulk not be jealous of me."

I laughed at his comment and he quickly joined in.

"Oh yeah Kai, how could he not be jealous of all of this?" I say motioning to him.

We continued back and forth, making jokes about the boys and Avery. It was nice until I felt a large hand on my wrist. By the look on Kai's face I already knew who it was.

"Hello Avery," I turned around to see him with a stern face, looking at Kai.

"Welp I guess that's my sign to leave. I'll text you later Keely!" Kai smiled and walked away towards the parking lot.

"I don't like him." Avery says, releasing my hand and looking down at me.

"Well I don't like you," I reply with an emotionless face.
Avery's face remain the same. He knew I didn't mean it but I could see a hint of doubt in his eyes.

I giggle and cross my arms across my chest.

"Kai is my friend. If you got a problem with it then we have a problem."

"But–"

"No, I told you that I don't want what happened earlier this week to happen again. I told you that if you let me, I'll come to you. I thought I proved that to you at lunch. "

Avery's face softened. I didn't want to be mean but at the same time, I don't even really know Avery, he is not my boyfriend, and I need to be strong for myself. I can't be pushed around like this, especially if it means one of my friends getting hurt.

Avery let out a sigh, "You're right, I'm sorry. I really like you Keely. Just please give me a chance."

I looked into Avery's eye. My face clearly showed my astonishment. "You like me?"

I mean yes I knew he liked me and by the way he grabbed my waist earlier it was clear that he wanted to be with me, but hearing him say it was different.

"Ye–" he started.

"Hey Keely!" Jake walked up to us with Nathan right beside him.

"Hey" I smiled back, ignoring the frustrated look on Avery's face. He's too cute. Maybe he isn't so bad after all.

"Excuse me but we were having a conversation, please leave" Avery says with an eye roll.

Nathan and Jake laugh and mumble sorry but before they could turn away I asked, "Nathan, can I braid your hair?"

Nathan turned around and grabbed his hair, "Oh I don't know Keely. My hair is honestly like my baby."

I laughed at his worried face. "Don't worry, I'll be gentle. You'll love it!"

Nathan Gabe in and said yes with a sigh. I did a quick little dance to celebrate.

I haven't known these guys very long but I find myself so comfortable around them. Moving here was a good idea.

I turned to Avery, knowing that he wanted the boys to leave. I laugh when I saw in looking at the ground with his hands in his pocket.

I turned back to Jake and Nathan and motioned to Avery behind me, "I guess I better take care of this."

They both laughed and said their goodbyes and walked to Avery's truck.

I turned back around to Avery and wrapped my arms around his waist. He sucked in a breath but before he could wrap his arms around me, I let go.

"I'll see you next week Avery, have a nice weekend," I said sweetly. I turned to walk away but Avery grabbed my wrist before I could leave.

"Wait, go out with me. Please. Tonight? I'll pick you up."

There was a rawness in his voice. Instead of a question, it sounded more like a plea. Like he was begging me. I feel this pull towards Avery. I'm not sure what it is but I feel good about it. Maybe it's time to give him a chance...

"Okay."
