Keely's POV

"We are werewolves Keely"

I stood there in complete and utter shock. The scene before me showed the boy from earlier, deformed, screaming out in pain. I could see the bones break and move under his skin. Hair or fur, I guess, would ripple out from his skin and then disappear. The boys eyes would flicker gold.

Werewolves can't be real  even if they are, this can't be it. The pain this boy was going through.

My head began to spin and I felt nauseous. My eyes became blurry as tears poured out of me. My heart was racing and soon it felt like all the oxygen had left the room. I couldn't breath. Next thing I knew, I was on the cold floor blacking out.

I woke up dazed and confused. My head was pounding and my mouth was super dry.

"Keely, are you okay?"

I looked to my side to see Avery sitting on the coffee table holding my hand. Oh, I'm in his living room. Wait, does that mean everything that I dreamed actually happened? Werewolves are real?

"Werewolf. That's what you told me." I nibbled while struggling to put my thoughts and words together.

"Yes Keely. Wer–"

"The boy!" I jumped up and ran straight to the door. I needed to check on the boy.

"Keely wait! It's not safe!"

I could hear Avery running after me. He quickly caught up but I wasn't going to let him stop me.

I ran down the stairs of the cellar. The boy was still in the cage. Dripping in sweat but no longer in any pain. The two men accompanying him darted up when I ran in. Avery grabbed my arm before I could move.

"Keely, you can't be here. It's not safe. Please just go back to the house."

"No Avery, I'm staying here. I'm worried about him. I'm not leaving."

I just need to know this is real. Everything that I believed in before is ruined. I don't know what to believe. Am I safe here? With Avery and Jake and Nathan?

I walked up to the cell or cage or whatever they called it and sat on the ground.

"Well since she's not leaving, I guess we can have this conversation now," Avery began speaking to the two guys, "how was he bitten?"

"We were traveling with a group of rogues. We needed a safe way to get out of pack territories and into neutral, unclaimed land. On the way, one of the rogues got upset. There was a misunderstanding and they ended up attacking the boy sometime at night while he was walking home. They wanted to leave him there to die but I couldn't, we couldn't. We stayed back and said we'd finish him off but instead we helped him and moved as quickly as possible to neutral land in the opposite direction. That's how we ended up here."

Although I was listening to the man speak, I didn't dare take my eyes off the boy. He was my age or at least around my age. We could've been in the same grade, classmates. I can imagine him, Kai, and I sitting in class together or at the lunch table together. How could something so terrible happen?

Avery soon spoke up in response saying, "I see, well I think you'll understand when I say that you will not be permitted to leave my territory until the fate of this boy has been decided by the moon goddess."

"Yes Alpha, I completely understand. We were just trying to keep the boy and the humans around him safe, just in case he did survive."

"I can't make any promises but I will gather my council and if we deem you trustworthy and not harmful to the pack, you may stay if you decide. If this boy survives of course. Having a bitten wolf out there without a proper pack is dangerous."
