Ryuu was in their lounge (yes, they had their own lounge right outside their classroom) it was the area they got to hang out and possibly decide how to torture anyone who had looked at any of them wrong. And by them, I mean Ryuu.

He was by himself, wondering around and seething. He'd heard from Luke that that stupid John F-something had tried to sexually assault Malkia and he felt terrible. He wanted to scare her but that was not what he had had in mind. What was wrong with that guy anyway, who tries to rape a girl just like that?

He'd already asked him and his friends to make sure that he never had to see them again; that was his kind way of asking them to transfer schools. He didn't want to tag them and chase them out when they were only trying to do his wishes, however misguided they were. He feared that John only pretended to do his wishes but he'd wanted to attack that poor girl all along.

Ryuu would never admit it but that was the only reason he made sure that those freaks transferred out. A part of him felt entitled to feel angered that someone would try to do that to her, he felt that doing so meant disrespecting him. He didn't get his own emotions at all but he knew what he felt when he looked at her and he knew that it was pointless to try and fight it.

He'd tried to do so all of last week and failed. He'd actually spent most of his weekend thinking about her. He was spending most of his time thinking of her, of her beautiful face, that fierce expression and her easy grace that made you want to stare at her flaring skirt as she walked away.

He sat down on one of the chairs and sank even lower; he'd gone about this all wrong. He shouldn't of have tried to send her away the moment he felt what he felt. He should have tried to talk to her, to get to know her or even comment her on her bravery. Very few people would stand up for people the way she stood up for Marla last Monday.

He heard a couple of footsteps approaching the lounge and wondered if it was his friends or some misguided schoolmate who wanted to try and get close to them. He hoped it was his friends - actually he hoped it was just Luke so he could explain to him once more that he would never command anyone to do such a thing.

So scum but not that kind of scum. Got it.

The door busted open, it was his friends (Jay and Simba) but it wasn't just them. Right behind them was Malkia. He stood up. She looked different, her jaw was tense and her fingers were clenched into fists. Her hair was not in its usual messy afro, it was instead tied back with enough hair gel that made it shimmer. Her coils were still visible in the back and she still had on her old tennis shoes but her coat was missing, Ryuu saw it right outside the door laying on the floor like it had been thrown there.

He studied her body language one last time before his fighting instinct rushed in - she'd pushed Jay and Simba aside and as they stumbled on their feet trying to stay upright she jumped off the ground and her leg swung around - a high kick aimed  at his head. She was much shorter than he was so it was pretty impressive that she got as high as his jaw. But he was an experienced fighter himself; he knew how to block her foot.
