It was Tuesday and Luke and Malkia were in their own little world in their empty class right after lunch as usual. Ryuu wanted to be right outside but he didn’t think his friend would try anything if he thought that Malkia was his girlfriend. He did notice that she still looked at Luke like she was yearning to be near him, he really wanted to have her look at him the same he had to remind himself to be patient.

He couldn’t force her to feel for him what he felt for her.

Malkia was having an epiphany of her own. She was sitting so close to Luke she felt a light headed and she lost focus every time she tried to write her essay. She realized right then that she had to stop meeting him in private.

For real this time.

There was something going on between her and Ryuu and Luke was with Jamila, any wrong move by her – like suddenly blurting that she loved him – would not only impact her relationship with Ryuu but it will ruin her friendship with Jamila. And she loved Jamila too.

Jamila was like the older sister she never had. Jamila was always doting on her, telling her she looked pretty even though she’d only gotten her hair braided, she was giving people stink eyes on her behalf and she always made time to be with her. She was honest and lovely and just someone you wanted to be around because she was such a bright light, like the star that their planet belonged to. She didn’t want to lose that.

“I guess I already have everything down so we won’t have to do this anymore,” she said giving him the essay; it was from the final question from the books he’d told her to borrow from the library.

“I don’t see why, we can go through next semester’s syllabus.” He said reading her essay he had a pencil in hand that he used to write little notes on her paragraphs.

“It’s fine, Ryuu can teach me the rest.” She said, she didn’t even know why she inserted his name. Part of her registered that she wanted to see the jealousy in his eyes once more.

Luke turned to look at her slowly, like he hadn’t heard what she had said but it was too insignificant to ask her what it was she had said.

No jealousy, Malkia noted.

“Ryuu?” Luke finally said once he was done grading her paper, B+, he was worse than the teachers.

“Yeah, he helped me out that day when you weren’t around last week.”

“Wouldn’t studying with your boyfriend be too much of a distraction?”

“This is too much of a distraction,” Malkia blurted. She looked down at her feet when she realized what she had just said.
