Everyone got in their assigned cars and Dave drove in front of Maggy. Maggy followed him.
" God, it's too cold out there. Maggy, turn on the heating please," Derek asked. Maggy turned on seat warmers where it warms your butt and turned on the heating in general, " out of all of the times it could happen, why did the outbreak happen when it was cold out?" Derek sighed and reclined his seat.
" Derek, your seat's to close!" Askova complained. Derek just laid there.
" Then do something about it," Derek chuckled. Askova leaned over and punched his shoulder, " ow. That really hurt. What was that for?" Derek whined.
" You said to do something about it. So I did," Askova answered. Derek looked at her.
" I meant to say please," Derek replied. Askova waited before answering.
" But you still wouldn't move," Askova said in a sassy tone. Derek turned around and pulled his seat up a bit more. Askova whispered "Thank You" quietly.
To Dave and the others...
Dave drove on the highway towards the St. Louis Children hospital. They were ten minutes away from getting there.
" Ok Dave, question. Three actually. One, why St. Louis? Two, why the St. Louis Children's Hospital? And three, how the frick, did you get lost and go off the highway?!" Willow yelled at Dave. Dave sighed in anger.
" I have never been to St. Louis. Which means I don't know where to go," Dave answered. Willow looked curious.
" Have you ever read a sign?" Willow asked softly. She sounded calm.
" Um, yeah." Dave scoffed.
" Then read them!" Willow retorted. Dave looked disturbed, then grunted in anger.
" Willow, calm down. No need to yell," Lindsay commented, looking forward. Willow looked sad.
" How can I? Destiny is dead, and do you know who she was to me?" Willow replied. Lindsay just looked at her, then shook her head.
" She was like a sister to me. Yes, she might have been a pain in the butt, but she always stood up for me." Willow looked like she was about to cry. Lindsay hugged her, then Willow began to cry.
" I never knew Destiny, but when she came to Base 5, she always was an... interesting person to be around," Michaela started. Lindsay looked at her. " But she always tried to cheer someone up when they were down." Michaela finished and looked forward. Willow was still crying.
To Maggy, Askova, Derek, and Ray...
Maggy followed Dave to the Children's Hospital. They were only a couple of minutes away. Ray was asleep again, tears dry on her face. She was crying practically the whole way there. Askova was a little tired, trying to keep herself awake by counting the trees outside the car window. But the trees were covered with smoke by a nearby fire, so she didn't have much luck.
" Derek, could you turn on the radio, I need to stay awake." Derek did just that, and a newscast came on.
" It's been a week and a half since the apocalypse started, and our studies suggest that 0.0001% of Americans are left and not devoured by the infected," the person on the radio said.
" What?" Maggy questioned immediately after they said that. Askova shot up.
" Hey, turn it up," Askova said, looking focused on the radio. Derek turned it up.
" There were 322,762,018 Americans before the outbreak. About 0.0001% is left which means there are only about 320 subjects left. Whoever... listening, please... Help... surv..ve... God... merica..." Then there was static. The car was eventually quiet with white noise. Then a song came on.
" Only 320 people left?" Askova whined quietly. Derek just looked at the radio. He turned the music down, then looked at Askova. They both looked sad. He looked forward, thinking.
" Subjects?" Maggy commented. They both looked at Maggy.
" Subjects?" Askova repeated, " we're... subjects?" Everyone was quiet again.
