The feeling

Chapter 10

They had been sitting in the court room for about 10 minutes. And the judge still wasn't there, and the more she had to wait the more nervous she got.

"Hey don't sike yourself out, just breathe" Don said putting a hand on her bouncing knee.

"He's not even in here yet and my heart is beating a thousand beats a minute" Meryl said crossing than uncrossing her legs.

Just when Don was about to say something; two cops brought in David. He had handcuffs of his wrists and his feet. Meryl's breath left her when he made eye contact with her. He winked and looked down at his feet with a smirk. Don put his left arm around her and grabbed her hand with his right.

"All rise for the honorable judge Robert Smith" said one of the court officers.

They all rose and once he sat the officer said "please be seated".

"I understand this is a highly protected case and no names shall be released. I'm aware that David Bakker has been accused of rape in the first degree, stalking, and kidnapping. As I read the story here, it looks like Mrs. Gummer might have to fill in some holes from the story" the judge said.

"Your honor I would like to just say that Mrs. Gummer has been through something horrifying. And as the defense knows, we'd like to get the whole story. The whole truth" said Meryl's lawyer as he proceeded to sit down.

"Please this is a women who's been an actress for over 4 decades. We all know she can act, what's stopping her from acting like this really happened when we all know she's probably lying" said the defense lawyer.

"Martin that is enough I don't want to hear anything like that again. Now Anderson, do you have a witness?" The judge questioned.

"Yes your honor, the prosecution calls for Meryl Gummer" Meryl's lawyer said.

Meryl stood up very shaky and walked over to the chair that sat in front of everyone. She sat down and took a deep breath. As she looked up she saw Don's eyes meet hers.

"Mrs. Gummer please tell me about the day Mr. Bakker kidnapped you" asked her lawyer.

"Well it was the night of a movie premiere and my husband and I had enough for the night and decided to go home. As me and him were walking out he told me to wait by the door for him. He was going to pull the car around and pick me up. I'm not gonna lie I was a bit drunk, so I was unaware of my surroundings. As I waited a man approached me and  told me that my husband had told him that I was to go to the back. I for some stupid reason listened to him" Meryl answered.

"Did you know the man? Was he someone you've seen before?" Anderson asked.

"No. I had never seen him before and yet he acted like I did know him. It was creepy and I felt like I should've stayed where I was but I didn't listen to my gut. As I got to the back building; my husband was no where in sight. And that's when..." Meryl tried to keep going but couldn't. "Sorry I just need a minute".

"Take all the time you need" her lawyer said to her as she wiped some tears.

She took a breath in and exhaled. "That's when David had told me that my husband wasn't back there. He grabbed me and covered my mouth, restraining me from getting away. I tried to scream but... but I couldn't" Meryl said choking on her words. "I had found enough strength to kick him as hard as I could and it worked. I tried to run back to the front and that's when I saw my husbands car. He was waiting for me and I screamed for him to help me. But David had grabbed me again and put a rag over my face. The last thing I saw was Don, my husband running to me. And than I woke up in a dark room on a old mattress" Meryl finished and took a drink of water.
