Chapter Nine

"I didn't know we were bringing an interpreter along!" Dum Dum shouted when he saw Venetia making her way towards their Jeep, a bag slung over her shoulder. "You sure you've got the right car, ma'am?"
"Dugan, shut your mouth before I shut it for you." She rolled her eyes at the larger man, tossing her bag into the back before she moved to the empty passenger's seat, Bucky in the driver's.
"Happy to have you coming along, Venetia." Gabe smiled at the young woman, having already claimed one of the seats behind her, alongside Dernier and Dum Dum.
"No offense, but what's she gonna do? Charm the SOBs to death?" Dum Dum scoffed, not understanding what the Sarafian woman had to offer the team out in the field.
Bucky and Venetia shared a look before she took a deep breath, allowing flames to ignite on her fingers, just as she had when she had first shown Bucky her abilities. All of the men around her stared at her with wide eyes, having never seen something like it before.
"Holy shit," Jim swore from where he stood beside the Jeep, having been in the process of loading his own with James.
"I'd watch what you say," James warned Dum Dum, a smirk playing on his lips. "I wouldn't want to end up on her bad side."
"Don't worry, Johann Schmidt and his men have taken up permanent residence there. I don't think there's room for anyone else," Venetia said as the flames disappeared from her hand before anyone else could see. She was find with the team knowing, but the last thing she wanted was for the rest of the base to be gossiping about her. "So, are we gonna get out of here or what?"
"You heard the lady!" Steve grinned as he joined his team, his shield in place on his back. "Let's get going."

For weeks the team, now known as the Howling Commandoes, had been traveling throughout Europe, taking down Hydra labs one at a time. It was in the middle of Austria that the team now found themselves hiding in the trees that lined a dirt path.
Rather than being tucked further back in the greenery, Venetia found herself standing beside Jim, just out of sight from the armored vehicle that was driving down the road, in the direction of the nearby lab. As soon as the vehicle turned the bend in the road Jim let out a low whistle, signaling to the others that it was time to act. He flashed the light before he handed Venetia the bomb they'd brought.
The woman ran as quickly as possible into the road. She refused to let any fear creep into her mind as she laid herself down in the middle of the dirt road, right under where the vehicle was headed. The others watched from the trees, Bucky's breath caught in his throat, as the vehicle drove over Venetia, allowing her to attach the bomb underneath it. A grin filled the woman's lips as she stood up, not bothering to cover her ears as the car kept going, only to explode when it got a good several yards away from her.
