"Some days she felt like she was swimming in lies, treading water in a sea of deception. One day, surely, she would drown in her own secrets."

Steve and Venetia didn't fight the Hydra soldiers as they were captured and led into the base. No one spoke a word as they were led through the maze of hallways, only stopping in a large office room where the one and only Johann Schmidt was awaiting them.
"Arrogance may not be a uniquely American trait, but I must say, you do it better than anyone." Schmidt complimented Steve as he made his way over to where his men were restraining the pair. Venetia's eyes narrowed at the sight of the man that was behind the deaths of three of the most important men in her life. "But there are limits to what even you can do, Captain. Or did Erskine and Sarafian here tell you otherwise?"
"They told me you were insane," Steve narrowed his eyes at the red faced man.
"Ah," Schmidt nodded, almost in understanding. "He resented my genius and tried to deny me what was rightfully mine, but he gave you everything. So...what made you so special?"
"Non è un pazzo psicotico assassino che si preoccupa solo delle sue delusioni e sete di potere!" Venetia spat at the man's feet, her eyes narrowed into slits.
"Nothing. I'm just a kid from Brooklyn." Steve scoffed, ignoring his friend's outburst. His words were enough, setting Schmidt off and causing him to hit him in the face and knee in him in the gut, causing him to crumble to his knees. Steve grunted in pain, taking a deep breath before he looked up at the German man. "I can do this all day."
"Oh, of course you can. Of course," Schmidt rolled his eyes at the blond's words as he pulled out his gun. "But unfortunately, I am on a tight schedule."
"Yeah, about that..." Venetia smirked as they heard metal digging into the rocks outside the window. They all looked towards the glass, spotting three figures using ziplines to approach the window, fast.
"So am I," Steve grunted as he shoved one of the Hydra soldiers in front of him, making Schmidt kill the soldier instead. Flames lit up Venetia's arms, causing the soldiers containing her to release her just as Gabe, Dum Dum, and James burst through the windows. Schmidt wasted no time in rushing down the hall, leaving his men to be shot down by the Howling Commandoes.
"Rogers! You might need this!" James tossed Steve his shield. Steve caught it with ease before he and Venetia raced out of the room, eager to find Schmidt.
They could hear chaos erupting around them throughout the base, Phillips' men having broken into the base with the rest of the Howling Commandoes. Neither of them lost their focus as they continued to race about, eventually catching up with Schmidt on a lower floor. Steve sent his shield flying down the hall, getting caught in a door before it could close behind the other man. They hurried to catch up, only to have a Hydra soldier with a flame thrower step in their way. Both of them dove out of the way of the flames.
