The next week passed quickly. Mostly it was just Sophie at school and me and Ryan finding small ways to entertain ourselves. By the end of the week, I was convinced that I was not complete without school. Actually, this was my life during summer break every year, well, that and vacations to places like Canada and Mexico.
On Saturday, Mr. Forkle was coming to havenfield, so on Friday, while everyone was either at school or work, Robin, Ryan and I went to Everglen. "Alright," I said, walking into Callan's room behind Robin and with Ryan behind me.
His room was a mess of craziness. There were monkey bars on the slanted ceiling, which started right next to the door, with a twisty slide at the end of them. The bathroom was right next to his bed, which I thought was super weird, but I did not judge. There was also a bookcase on the other side of his bed that contained mostly Harry Potter and KOTLC. Turns out he also had stuffed as many stuffed animals into his backpack as he could when we left our homes. They were now piled on his bed, and I wondered how there was room for him to sleep. His closet was located near the start of the monkey bars, but I did not want to know what was in there. He had somehow brought his skateboard from his house, and it rolled all over the room. I have no idea how he got it in his backpack. The best part was on top of his bookshelf. He had put a picture of our 4th grade class and a picture of his family. It reminded me of those days. There were also tons of pillows everywhere.
We all sat down on some of the pillows, and I continued speaking. "We know we were a genetic experiment, so what are we going to ask him."
"Well, first of all let's ask him WHY we were made." Robin answered.
"And then depending on that answer, we'll ask some more smaller questions, like-" "WHAT ME AND KELLY'S ABILITIES ARE GOING TO BE!" Callan interrupted
"YES!" I said after him "ALSO, if one of us will have more than one ability."
"Wait," said Callan. "Aren't we all polyglots since we can speak the Enlightened Language?"
There was a moment of silence as we thought about this. I thought that I would probably know if I was a polyglot though. It was kinda scary thinking I could speak troll and never knew it.
"This stuff is deep," said Robin, breaking the silence. "No, we are not polyglots. If we were, I would have learned french much easier." I countered. "Besides, the way that Sophie spoke the enlightened language is because Mr. Forkle put a basic understanding in her brain, that's also what he did to us."
"Ok, then." Callan said. "What else do we need to know then?" "I don't know, maybe we'll think of something when we see him?" Robin answered. "I guess so." Ryan agrees. "WAIT!" Ryan exclaimed. "We could ask him if we can join the Black Swan!"
"I guess so." I said "he might not let us join just yet though." "Yeah, I guess," Ryan responded "but we'll still try, right?" "Yeah, we will." "Yeah." said Callan.
" Hey guys, I wanna try inflicting on you, if that's ok" Robin said "I think it would be funny if I made you die of laughter." "Hmmm." Ryan said. "I think I'm out."
"NOPE" callan said as he tugged on his shirt, forcing him back in the room. "Fine, but I'm not first" he said. "Well, since I know you won't do it that hard, I'll go first" I declared, making Robin smile. "Thanks, but don't trust me that much"
I waited for what felt like hours as Robin tried to inflict on me, but finally, a tingle of happiness sprouted in my brain. That happiness reminded me of back then, when my life was normal. "Stop!" I cried, making callan jump to his feet. "You ok?" Callan said as the that happiness shifted away. "Not exactly" I said "that just reminded me of the old times, the happy times—but I'm sure I'll be way more happy here..." I said, not convincing the others. But they stayed silent anyway.
"Sorry but Kesler is calling me home" Robin said, staring at her imparter, then walked out of the room, saying, "Bye guys!" As soon as she was gone, Ryan asked Callan "Robin has to go home, but is it ok if we stay for a sleepover? Edaline said before we left that if we wanted to stay, we could, as long as your dad says it's ok."
"I guess that's probably fine." Callan responded "Ok, but ima go home and get some stuff, Ryan can come if he wants to, but he could probably borrow some of your cloths." I told Callan, starting to walk out to the leapmaster. "I'll be right back."
I shouted "HAVENFIELD" into the leapmaster, and leaped back to Havenfield. As soon as I got to the front door, I opened it and called, "EDALINE!" as I looked into the kitchen. "Oh, hi Kelly. Where's Ryan?"Edaline asked. "We're going to sleep over at Callan's house, I just came back to get some stuff and tell you." I replied.
"Ok that sounds fine. Just go upstairs and ask Sophie if she wants to come. She can hangout with Fitz and Biana" "Ok." I responded, going up the stairs to my room.
When I asked Sophie if she wanted to come, she said, "Sure, I guess. I'm done with my homework for tonight." "Great, I'm just gonna go grab my stuff. Meet me downstairs." I said, walking out of the room and up to my room.
I grabbed a nightgown and clothes for tomorrow. I also put my phone in my bag, cause I forgot to bring it to Everglen earlier. I walked down the stairs, mt galaxy backpack bouncing as I went, and saw Sophie waiting by the leapmaster.
When she saw me, she shouted, "EVERGLEN!" and a beam of light appeared. She stepped in and I followed.
As soon as I saw the glittering gates, I ran toward the house and Sophie followed behind. It turned out that apparently the boys had invited keefe over too, because when I was almost at the door, I saw him step out of the light and started over toward the house.
I went in the door to find Callan, Ryan, and Fitz on the couch. "Hey, Kelly." Fitz said as I walked in. Callan and Ryan said "Hi" too. "You're going to be sleeping in Biana's room with her and Sophie." He continued. "Ok, that's fine. I wasn't planning on sleeping with them," I pointed at Callan and Ryan, "anyway."
Callan, Ryan and I went up to Callans room to play a game. When we were bored af playing, I went on my phone and Ryan on his, and Callan went onto his iPad. Just then we heard a knock on the door.
Fitz opened the door, "Guys, dinner." He said. "Ok" we all responded. We put our devices down and followed Fitz downstairs. As soon as we were all sitting, I exclaimed, "GUYS! I just had the BEST idea EVER. Well, maybe not the best idea, I've had better, but not the point. What if we play basequest, but in the dark, so it's even harder! We can use or own personal flashlights, but not too bright." Everyone seemed to like the idea, so we started to split into teams while we ate. In the end this is how the teams were laid out:
Team one:
Kelly
Fitz
Biana
Callan
Team two:
Sophie
Keefe
Ryan
Team one would be questing first, so we all devoured our dinner and went outside. Sophie would transmit to Fitz when her team was ready. Me and Ryan went up to our rooms to get our phones. I preferred to use my own flashlight.
I probably won't use the flashlight much anyway, it counters stealth. It's easier to play and not get caught when you don't have a bright flashlight giving you away. I also just love running as fast as I can through the dark, letting the cold wing fly through my hair and cool down my skin and face, hot from all the running.
Grizel and Sandor would have to come outside, staying near their respective teams, not interfering with the game, but Sophie's bodyguards minus Sandor, Woltzer, and Ro agreed to stay inside.
We all went outside, and my team stayed near the house while Sophie's team went to the usual basequesting tree. Suddenly Fitz started to count down from three, I looked at Callan. Once Fitz said one, Fitz and I ran for the tree, while Callan and Biana stayed behind to guard
