Chapter Thirty One: Catch Up

How my feet were able to keep supporting my weight was a big mystery. I was beyond rattled by the feel of a loaded gun pressed to my back and a very grumpy voice breathing to my ears. The smell of Marijuana and food decay which the man exhumed from his mouth made my stomach churn. I fought whimpers from escaping my mouth and tears from fleeing my eyes.

Many thoughts ran through my mind but I had no courage to carry any of them out. I had thought of jabbing the man on his ribs then running away. He would have shot me in the head before I made it out and the other ladies would be dead too. There was no way to overpower this man I just had to pray he stole whatever he wanted to steal and went his way.

"Which one of you is Esther?" he whispered into my ears. My lips meant to move but my clattering teeth couldn't get a response out.

"Are you deaf woman? Which one of you is Esther? I have two more jobs to do so quit wasting my time". This time his voice was rougher and the impatience it denoted was well taken.

"wha_ why are you asking?" i bit my lips in regret as soon as the words left my mouth.

"You must be very stupid for asking me that. Listen lady if you don't point me in the right direction, I'll kill you and the other ladies in this place. I don't really care about any of you, all I care about is my money! Now this Esther messed with someone and her head is wanted. That is very simple, so  tell me who she is and I'll let you go"

Someone wanted Esther dead and we would all die if I didn't do something quick. My brain went blank and I that kept surfacing was "mountain of truth".

"I'll help you find Esther, first you must give me something."

He scoffed and pressed the gun tighter "you don't have any right to make demands woman"

"I need a gun, an unloaded gun. You want to find out who Esther is right and I'm very sure you want to escape from this place without getting caught. Please just do as I say"

He removed the gun slowly from my back and turned me abruptly so that I was facing him. I could not make out his face because he had been smart enough to cover it with a mask.

"I don't usually go on this kinds of missions with two guns, you must be a lucky woman"

How could I be considered lucky when I was about to lose a friend or possibly my own life.

"The last person I point the gun at is Esther. You are to shoot the last person I point this gun at"

I could tell his gun was still pointed at me when I walked back into the room. Grace was seated inside with her eyes on the television. Esther and Nasa had been talking about something that I couldn't quite hear. I tried to get my breathing under control. Immediately I got to the center of the room, I did what I had no idea I could do.

The sound brought everyone's attention to me. Watching action movies had taught me to cock a gun, I would have laughed if the condition was favorable.

"Which one of you slept with him?"

"Vicky are you okay?" Nasa was the first person to talk.

"Do I look okay? Listen I am going to kill everyone in this room if you don't tell me who the hell has been sleeping with my husband!"

The three ladies stood up and I could tell they were nervous.

"Who was it!?"

"We all did!" Grace was the one who spoke this time.

My breathing hitched and I couldn't believe what she said. What did you just say? "

" You heard me Vicky, we all did! "

" Grace stop talking you are making matters worse, Victoria please calm down" Esther pleaded

"For what! You don't deserve him Victoria! You don't!"

All my lips could form was the word "Why?"

"Because I love him!"

My eyes fell on Esther who I trusted more than anyone else. Her betrayal hurt more than the others'

With so much rage and pain spoke to her. It felt like my heart was being sliced open with every word that they let out.

" How many times!!  Tell me how many times!!! I yelled

Since Aaron began his new class, she replied shaking

I sobbed and held the gun tighter,
With Charles? "
Say it with who?  I need to hear you say it!!
With Charles!!! She screamed

Please Vicky drop the gun, please!!! Think of Aaron, he's your godson. Don't let this ruin your life, our lives.

"Why shouldn't I put this bullet in your head!! Tell me Esther tell me!! " I yelled with a gun pointed at her.

I trusted you all, I loved you like sisters why did you do this to me?
I sobbed

Shut your eyes, do it now!!!
I watched them shut their eyes and all I could think of was poor Aaron mourning his mother. The poor boy didn't deserve a whore of a mother but I just couldn't go on with the plan.

I knew they were not looking with the way they were shivering with the uncertainty of who I was going to shoot first.

I turned to the figure which had slowly appeared from the dark, then pointed the gun to my head." It was a mountain of truth after all" . That was all I could think of before everything went dark.

A foul smell emanated from where I sat and I knew too well what the smell was. Blood, there was blood around me. I tried moving again but it was a futile attempt.

I felt a presence in the room and the click of a switch made my eyes burn. The room was suddenly too bright and I had to blink furiously to control the amount of light that entered my eyes.

"Who are you? What do you want from me!"

She chuckled and moved closer to me

"Now that, my dear friend is no way to address an old friend"

I finally stopped blinking and saw the creature before me.

Shocked by who it was, I let out a gasp.
