Charles felt a lot of weight lifted off his shoulders after his talk with his wife. As he drove back to his house he couldn't help but feel uneasy about Grace and her disappearance.
After the police told him about her involvement as well Jude's in his wife's kidnapping he felt queasy about the situation.

Grace knew the police were after her, Jude had cleared his name when he came to town, claiming he had come
for some sort of business which Victoria knew about. Victoria knew the state of Jude's marriage and even though she said she had her doubts about Jude, she never believed he could be in cohorts with his wife.
Charles didn't think so and the other moron was not in a state to talk.

There was a slight fear he felt concerning his wife's safety but after he saw the people assigned to keep her safe he felt a bit better. Besides getting to Vicky would be like walking into a lion's den. When they had suggested that he take an escort down to his house, he felt it was ridiculous.

He shot the idea down, as long as Vicky was safe he didn't have anything to fear.

Christy had suggested going  to her aunt Esther's house a day after they arrived and he let her go. The girl must have missed the lady and Aaron as well, besides they needed to sort out things considering the new turn their relationship had taken.

Vicky still had few more days to stay with her mother and he missed her terribly. Charles tried to prepare himself egg sauce and yam for dinner at night, he had decided to stay in doors and avoid all sorts of prank people would pull on him. People were fond of pulling pranks on April 1st and he did not want to be a victim.
His gatekeeper had left the house on his instructions. Charles didn't want the man to feel lonely since their driver traveled as well. The egg sauce turned out to be darker than it was expected to be but the yam was okay to him.

He knew he did a horrible job but it was either that or going to get something outside and he didn't feel like leaving the house anytime soon.
So he sat and ate with much disdain the atrocity he had committed in the pot in the name of food.

Charles couldn't wait for Vicky to come back and feed him properly.
After a few bites he managed to get his growly stomach calm. Charles walked into their room and he couldn't help the smile that came to his face. He remembered the first time he made love to Vicky after her accident.

He was always afraid that Vicky wouldn't trust him to that point since she could not remember much about her past. It was also similar to the first time they had consummated their marriage.

He glanced at their bed and the words Vicky had said popped into his head "Peel the onion"

Charles removed all his clothing and walked into the bathroom to have his bath. He laughed at how much he missed his wife. Even the shower reminded him of Victoria. How she would always tell him to bathe alone whenever he did something bad. It was very irritating how Vicky could get when she became upset but sometimes it was amusing.

She would always say" okay" when things were definitely not okay, atleast not with her.
He stepped out of the bathroom, then on a second thought he decided to finally trim his beard a little. Vicky would be pleased with that, she had complained about it initially.

With his towel secured around his waist, he got to work. Few minutes later Charles walked into his room, slightly exhausted.
He lay on his bed but his eyes couldn't just shut themselves. It hadn't hit him that he wasn't in his pajamas till he rolled to the side of the bed where his wife normally slept. He gathered the towel and secured it again on his waist. He lay on the right side of the bed holding the pillow to his chest and inhaling Vicky's scent. It was funny how Victoria could barely make use of her right hand but did important things on her right. Everything about Vicky was strangely useful and she was amazing. He found out about her experience just because of her inability to use her right hand properly. Found out that she doubted him when she lay on the left side of their bed pretending to sleep.

He smiled at the thought, everything was really about Victoria tonight.
He had managed to sleep for barely five minutes before something woke him up.
He rubbed his eyes and stood up unaware of his state of undress. Charles turned on the light so that he could go investigate what exactly it was that woke him from sleep. It sounded like a thud and he just wanted to be sure. It was almost midnight and he was sure his daughter wouldn't be home till the next day.

He almost made to the door before he heard the sound of a cocked gun. His first instinct was to run but he knew it was too risky. His neighborhood had never been one to experience robbery before but he couldn't rule out the possibility.

"with his face till turned to the door, he began to speak.

" I have some money here with me if that's what you want, you can take as much as you want and leave. I won't do anything, I wouldn't call the police, there are other expensive items you can take too"

The robber didn't even make any sound and he tried again. "if someone sent you to harm me, I can pay you double of what they gave you" still the robber did not talk

He slowly turned hoping that the gun won't go off even before he caught a glimpse of who it was. When he finally turned to face who the robber was, he was stunned and terrified.

"if I wanted your money, I could have blackmailed you into emptying your account, no no no, since I don't have my freedom Charles I'm here to collect something worth more than living in this hell hole called a country. And it seems you're even ready to give what I came for, who knows we might even have a little fun while you prepare "

Charles wanted to cover himself up badly but he suspected that the lady  was not sane enough.

And what exactly did you come to collect Grace? My wife? Our daughter? Because they are not here and you can't harm them" Charles rejoiced in his silent victory that God had given him. His family was out of harm's way and if he was lucky, Grace would be out of their lives for good.

She laughed an evil laugh then held the gun tighter with her two hands.
"I was wrong, I should rephrase. I'm here to collect someone worth even more than my freedom. I'm here to collect you Charles. It's either I leave here with you or I leave without you and trust me you wouldn't want me to leave without you"

For the first time Charles understood that his life was in grave danger and he could really relate to what Vicky had gone through. He was very sure, he wouldn't leave without Grace, but was he ready to die?
