*Y/n POV*

Using my rusty sword, I blocked the sword that was heading towards my face, focusing my energy into stopping the attack in it's place. I whipped around and attempted to slash at my attacker, being blocked by the sword. He seemed to move faster than I could see, his sword a flash of light.

He swung his sword upwards again, attempting to slice at my chest. As if by instinct, I blocked the attack and parried his sword, making him stagger backwards.

I came in close and stabbed at him, striking against the armor on his chest. Sparks flew from the metal chest plate, but I didn't let up, striking again and again.

Sparks flew and the metal clanged, as I forced him to the edge of our stone ring. He held at the very edge, his feet firmly planted at the edge. He attempted to fight back, but I stepped back and charged forwards, my sword in both hands.

I screamed as I charged forward, stabbing into his chest.

The ringing of a gong interrupted us, signifying the match was over.

I turned to the old man I was fighting and offered a hand, helping him to his feet. We both put our swords down and he spoke.

"Well done Y/n," He said, "You could stand to defend a little more. It would help for you not to get stabbed every once in a while."

"Yes Sensei."

I bowed to him, and he returned the gesture. We stood again and began to leave the arena, heading our separate ways down the hall. As I returned to my room, I noticed embers flying through the open window. They suddenly formed together, revealing a letter with my name written on it.

I opened it and began to read, skimming the lines for important information. As I did, I felt a weight on my shoulder, displacing my balance slightly.

"Any news, Partner?"

"Nothing much, Funus," I answered, "The Shadows have killed Ironwood. They're moving onto the next objective."

"We'll be seeing everyone soon, I'm guessing?"

"Yes, we should be."

I grabbed the letter and threw it into the flame that burned in the fire place. This old place had long been a temple to Funus, and a safe house for his wielders. The letter burned in the flames, becoming identical to the ashes in the bottom of the fireplace.
