Jungkook

I stand towards the edge of the crowd with a few other secretaries at Jimin's birthday event.

I scan the crowd and notice that there are a lot of older people here, not many of them are around Jimin's age at all.

After Taehyung entered with Jimin a little while ago I didn't see where they went so I'm mostly scanning the crowd for Taehyung.

After he knows that I at least made an appearance I'm going to leave.

As I'm looking for him Jimin catches my eye, it's kinda hard to miss him in that suit he's wearing.

He sits in the sitting area alone with a glass of champagne in his hand, looking around with a fake smile and an unreadable expression.

I've noticed that he's too much of an open book, he's not even good at faking happiness.

I approach him, hesitating for some reason before speaking.

"Hey." I say making him look up with a bigger fake smile. "Happy Birthday."

"Thank you." He says, starting to stand up.

"No, no. Sit." I say with a smile. "I just wanted to wish you happy birthday."

"Oh, thank you, Jungkook." He says, addressing me informally for a change.

"Your welcome." I say. "Can I sit?"

"Yeah, of course." He says gesturing to the seat across from him.

"Why are you alone? Where's Taehyung?" I ask, finding him was my only true intentions.

"Oh, I'm not sure." He says, answering the second question.

"Why don't you go mingle?" I ask. "It is your party."

"I don't know, these are mostly Taehyung's friends and friends of our parents." He says, his smile faltering for a second.

I can't help but feel bad for Jimin sometimes, even though he should be happy to have Taehyung I guess he didn't really have him.

Taehyung was just there because it's how it's always been, the love has, hopefully, died out between them.

    "Jungkook."

Jimin and I look in the direction of Taehyung's voice.

"You came." He says, looking between me and Jimin.

"Yeah." I say standing up. "I wanted to make sure I saw you before the night was o-over."

I clear my throat, trying to cover up the crack in my voice.

How could I not stutter when Taehyung was looking so irresistibly good right now?

"Oh, thanks for coming. I'm sure it means a lot to Jimin." He says looking down at Jimin who shoots me another fake smile as he takes another sip of his drink.

"Yeah. Well I'll~"

"Attention! Attention everyone! We have a very, very important announcement to make." A woman, I think it's Jimin's mother, says into a microphone, pulling everyone's attention to the stage. "I'm sure everyone is very excited about the recent engagement of my son Park Jimin and his partner Kim Taehyung."

People start to clap and cheer, so I do too.

"So many of you have been curious as to when the big day would be." She continues, making my heart drop. "And I'm happy to let you all know that the happy couple have finally decided on a date."
