Epilogue

Almost one year later
12th April, 3 pm:

Nero reads to the orphans peacefully until they fall asleep.
Ever since the portal was closed more orphans have found their way to Nero's place.
He was happy though, it's what Lapis would have wanted.

The white haired male silently closes the book and leaves the living room so the children can sleep in peace.

As Nero reaches the kitchen he looks out of the window.
Ever since that day he has been looking and waiting for his true love to come back.

Nero reaches for a towel and starts to dry off the dishes he washed after lunch while staring outside onto the gray street.
He could come back at any moment and Nero knows it.

Then a male walks past the orphanage.

It's the same guy that came by the last few days as well.
The male is probably around 175 centimeters tall and wears all black, the hood pulled into his face.
His thin legs look like they could break with a single touch.

Suddenly the male stops and turns towards the orphanage as Nero watches him closely.
Those movements, they seem familiar.

The male outside cocks his head to the side and continues to walk into the direction he does every day.
"That's it", Nero mumbles as he throws the towel on the kitchen counter.
He then proceeds to put on his iconic blue leather jacket and his boots quietly.
After that Nero exits the house and follows the male.

He continues to walk into the streets of Fortuna where the unknown male enters a building.
It's an arcade bar.

Mostly middle aged people hang out here to drink and bet on games and tournaments but what does a guy like that want here?

Without hesitation Nero enters the bar to finally have his answers.

It reeks of alcohol and sweat and just as predicted, middle aged men talking to each other while cracking a cold one.
Nero walks to one of the arcade machines and sits down.

It looks like a racing game, but this machine is connected to the one standing in front.

"Looks like we're playing", A groggy voice suddenly says.
Nero looks up to see the male in the black hood.
"I'm quite good at this game so don't try too hard", He adds as he selects his character.
Nero just goes along and also chooses a character.

"So, when did you escape hell", Nero asks shocking the male in the black hoodie. "What do you mean, asshole?"
"When were you going to come back? It's been over a year."

A sigh leaves the unknown man's lips as he slips down the hood.
"How did you know?"
"Come on, Lapis. No one would walk past an orphanage every day and stare at it for ten minutes."
Lapis clears his throat. "I didn't know you were watching me."
Nero's cheeks turn bright red.

"I see you've changed your hair", Nero says before Lapis runs his fingers through his black undercut. "Yea, the mullet was a bit annoying."
"I like it."
A read tint spreads onto Lapis' cheeks.

"Do you want to come back to the orphanage?"
A smirk spreads onto Lapis' lips.

"Only if you beat me in this game. 2 out of 3, if you win I'll go with you, if I win I'll think of a punishment."
Lapis holds out his hand which Nero shakes. "Deal."

12th April, 4 pm:

"Dammit", Lapis curses as his head falls onto the arcade machine with a big bang.
Nero raises his fists in victory.
"Yes! You're coming home with me!"
Laughter escapes the white haired male's lips.

He's been waiting for this moment for almost a year.

"A deal is a deal."
Lapis gets up from his seat and holds his hand out to Nero.

"Shall we go home then, my love?"

Nero takes Lapis' hand thankfully and they walk back to the orphanage together, fingers intervened like back in the old days.
A satisfied sigh leaves Nero's lips.
"What's wrong", Lapis chuckles.
"I finally have you back."
Nero squeezes Lapis' hand a bit.

"I thank hell for that."
Lapis chuckles at Nero's comment. "I'm sorry that I didn't come earlier. I was scared."

Nero stops in his tracks.
"What were you so afraid of", He asks Lapis who has stopped walking as well.
"I thought you were mad at me for being away so long, for hurting you."

A gentle smile spreads onto Nero's lips.

"Lapis, I could never be mad at you. You're back in one piece and that's the only thing that matters to me."
Then Nero pulls Lapis into a tight hug.
"I've missed you so much", Nero mumbles into his lover's ear.
"I've missed you too."

20th June, 5 pm:

Time has passed ever since Lapis came back to the orphanage.
The children were happy and Nero, of course, even more.

As almost everyday Lapis looks at himself in the mirror, eyeing his deep scars over his face.
His fingers trace the uneven skin as his blue eyes follow his movement.
"You do this every day", Nero says shocking Lapis a bit.
"Stop being so sneaky!"
Lapis playfully slaps Nero's rock hard chest.

With a gentle smile Nero then takes Lapis' hands into his and squeezes them.
Their eyes meet.

"No matter how you look, Lapis, I still want you to marry me", He says.
A chuckle escapes Lapis' lips.

"Yes, Nero. I will marry you."
