"Ace, Ava come down for dinner! Wash your hands!" Mom yelled from the dining room. "I'm not hungry!" I yell. "Not a fucking option!" Dad screams back. I rolled my eyes and made my way down. My sister, Ava, is already grubbing. I plop down into the seat next to her. As my mom fills my plate she says, "what was keeping you from coming down? Was it that pathetic girl?" I interrupt,"um actually she has a name. Cylyss you've met her!" Dad replies, "don't care, your food is getting cold".

That's my family for you. My dad is an attorney with his own firm and my mom is a neurosurgeon. My dad is what you would call an excessive dominant. He always has to show, he's the man of the house. My mother goes along with it. She's an amazing woman but she has to speak up way more especially to him. They're great I promise but they suck at the same time. My twin sister Ava is nothing like me. She's like my best friend but at times you never really know what's going on with her.

My girlfriend Cylyss is who keeps me sane. She's gorgeous and makes me melt. She's a year younger than me so last year I didn't see her as much as I wanted to. I'm the quarterback at Ravenwood High. My best friend Logan is on the team with me. We've been buddies since kindergarten. He's got my back and I've got his. He loves to tease me about Cylyss or about being the "golden boy" of the school. I'm what you would call popular but I don't see it that way. Sure I'm a A-B student, the star athlete, and I throw the best parties (not to be cocky or anything). That's not my goal. As long as I have my girl and my future football scholarships I'm straight.

"Ace!" my dad calls my name. "Did you even hear what I said? Get your head out of the clouds!" I snap out of it, "yeah sorry what did you say?" He sighs, "Fucking kids, I said since tomorrow is the start of your junior year, what's your schedule looking like? I'm guessing lots of AP classes considering your grades." I think of an excuse quickly, "I haven't gotten my schedule dad, how am I supposed to know what classes I'm in yet?"  "Don't be a smart ass with me boy. I-" He starts. "Hey language! We're trying to have a nice family dinner! Please honey, calm down." My mom says. Everyone falls silent. It's rare that she ever puts her foot down.

My mom is in the kitchen getting dessert ready. "Dad, where are you going?" Ava speaks up. "Jerry wants me to go to the office now to discuss some important information with my client, I'm not sure when I'll be back. Don't wait on me." He said while putting on his coat. "I'll be home early tomorrow to bring you guys to school. I'm so proud of you guys. Just one more year and then your done. Junior year isn't going to be able to handle both of you." Wow, he actually sounded genuine for once. "Honey, would you like me to pack you a late night snack?" Mom asks. "No, that won't be necessary". As my mom went in for a kiss she was greeted with a hug instead. Knowing her she probably dismissed it anyways.

I hear my sister whine, "Mom, I don't want to go to school tomorrow." As I get up to place my plate in the dishwasher, my mom says, "I don't want to hear your big mouth complain, you got yourself in this mess and you're definitely getting yourself out of it." Ava got held back. No one knows but mom and I. She was always partying, drinking, smoking. She never got work done and I tried to help her. I helped her study when she was sober and even did a few assignments for her. She just never focused. She's what you would call the "troubled twin". I think the reason she's been so distant with me is the fact that I'm the golden child and she's....not.

As I pull out my phone to text the most gorgeous girl in the world, I remember she got her phone cut off. Her family isn't financially stable, they couldn't keep up with the phone bill. I offered to pay it a few times but I was turned down like usual. I love her, yes love, but sometimes she leaves me in the dark. I can't help but wonder why. My thoughts were soon interrupted by the sound of my phone vibrating.

Logan:
This year's about to be wild bro. By the way we've been practicing this summer, those college scouts won't be able to take their eyes off you. I know I couldn't.

Me:
Yeah but what do you mean you couldn't.

Logan:
Bro it's a typo. My phones been glitching. I even sent an I love you text to my ex when it was meant for my mom.

Me:
Okay bro. I'll see you tomorrow at school.

Ava then walked by my room. "Yo Ava hold up" I yelled walking into the hallway to talk to her. "WHAT? Go away, can't you see I'm busy." "Doing what?" I then quickly notice a small baggie in her hand. "What is that? I thought we tal-" She holds the bag up to my face revealing the starbursts inside. I was about to apologize but she raised her hand up to my face, "save it". She storms into her room, slamming the door. "STOP SLAMMING DOORS IN MY HOUSE!" mom yells.
