I wake up to my notifications bell going off, as I grab my phone from my desk. I quickly skimmed all of the happy thanksgiving messages that were sent and quickly reply to the group by saying "I really appreciate having a team that has my back, off and on the field, happy thanksgiving guys." As I was liking some of the messages I notice that Logan didn't reply in the group chat. We have been pretty distant since the last game and I know that he was just trying to look out for the team. I think this time apart is good for us because we just been pretty busy with what's going on in our lives, but I think it's best if we spend Thanksgiving alone this year and I want to spend some quality time with my baby. I decided to text Cylyss and ask if she is still coming to my house for thanksgiving.

Me: hey babe, how was your night?

Cylyss: it was pretty good. How about you?

Me: it was alright. You still coming right?

Cylyss: of course, you know that I can't miss Nina's cooking. What time do you want me their?

Me: whenever you're ready, just let me know and I'll send an Uber over to pick you and your pretty ass up. Tell kassandra you're in good hands, I love you.

Cylyss: love you too and see you soon

I head to the bathroom to take a piss, that's when the door that leads to Ava's room swung open. "What the fuck Ava" I said turning around making my back face her. "It's not my fault that you don't know how to lock the doors. You're never even up this early." She said opening the mirror revealing the shelves behind it and pulled out a toothbrush and toothpaste. I washed my hands and started to brush my teeth, thinking of all the great food that I was about to indulge in.

I made my way down to the kitchen,noticing my mom and mostly Nina making thanksgiving dinner. It looked like they were making a mess. "Mom, I think we should leave the cooking to Nina." She glares at me. "He's right mom." Ava said making her way into the kitchen. "Be nice to your mom, she is a hard working woman. Out of all the days in a year, this is the day that you guys choose to attack her." Nina smiles. "Don't worry Nina, they want to act like I won't starve them."

Cylyss: I'm ready, you can call an Uber now

Me: Daniel Krupp is driving a white Honda Civic, License plate 2VHX37, and will be there in 10 mins. Be safe.

"Mom, where's dad?" Ava asked. "He should be down stairs in the theater room". She said pulling out the nice plates and silverware. "He had to take an important phone call." "Mom, I'm not trying to be nosy, but what's going on between you and dad." "Sweetie you don't have to worry about it, me and your father were just having a little disagreement. Now why don't you and Ace go set up the dinner table." Mom started to hand Ava and I the plates and glass cups when the bell rang. "Ava" did you invite someone? " I did but Maya said that she wouldn't be able to make it." Ava said placing the stacks of plate onto the table. "I'll get it" I said as I started to make my way to the door. "No it's fine, you still have to set up the table." Ava and I went back to setting up the table. We placed six plates on the table with six wine glasses at the side and folded orange cloth napkins too.

Mom headed towards the door and opened it. Cylyss was standing at the door with a bamboo steamer in her hands. "Good afternoon Mrs. Lockwood." My mom skips the greeting and said "Let me give that thing to Ace so you can be on your way to your family for thanksgiving." "No that won't be necessary, Ace invited me over to your house for thanksgiving." "Is that so, I guess you can come in." I place the spoons down and went to greet Cylyss. "Hey baby, how was your trip?" "It wasn't bad, my grandma made a lot of pork dumplings and I decided to take some. I didn't want to come empty handed." "You didn't have to bring anything babe, you know how much Nina loves to cook." I said taking her coat and hanging it up. "I have to go shower do you want to stay in my room?" "Yea." Me and Cylyss start heading up the room when mom said "honey can I borrow Cylyss?" "Uh-h sure." I head up stars to shower. "Cylyss, can you help me place the food on the table." Cylyss walked over to the kitchen and grab a bowl of greens and place it on the dinner table.

"I know how much you love my son and I know how much you think my son loves you but school is getting very serious. Colleges are starting to notice Ace. His father and I would be very disappointed if he started to be distracted because of a certain someone. When Ace heads off to college this little Rendezvous is going to have to end." Cylyss starts to hold back some tears and begins to speak. "My mother didn't raise a disrespectful child but it's going to be Aces choice not yours." She scoffs, "Everything my husband I do, we do for our kids. What I'm not going to let happen is have a child tell me how to raise my son. Everyone that spends every waking moment with our son is because we let them, they have the same goal for Ace and that is for him to make it to the NFL. I'm starting to get the idea that you might delay him from that goal or derail him completely. We can't have that Cylyss. I thought you were a phase but you're lasting longer than we hoped for and that's a problem, but enjoy the ride while it lasts. I can't have my son running around here with a chick from a broken family". Cylyss was about to open her mouth and speak but I texted her to meet me upstairs.

"Mom, Nina, this food smells delicious." I said eyeing the table filled with fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, apple pie, corn bread, biscuits, Brussels sprouts, baked potatoes, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing, baked beans and the infamous turkey. Nina went to go get sparkling cider for us 'kids' and fancy wine for the adults while mom went to grab dad.

"Hey babe." I said taking hold of Cylyss hand. "What's wrong." She shook her head, "Nothing, I'm just starving. At my house we don't have all of these food options." I squeeze her hand, "If you need to tell me something I'm here." She pats my hand, "I know that babe." Cylyss said placing a kiss on my cheek." Cylyss started to look at the table frantically. "Ace, have you seen my steamed pork dumplings?" "Didn't you place it on the table. Maybe my mom put it on the stove to keep it warm." "Mom, did you see Cylyss's dumplings?" Mom walked back into the dining room. "Yea, Nina had to throw it out because it was giving off a foul smell, she thought maybe it was expired. I would have stopped her if I knew that she thought it was for trash." " I'm sorry babe." I said moving a curl away from her face." "It's fine, she didn't know."

Dad, Ava, and Nina finally made it to the dinner table. Ava said a quick prayer and everyone dug in. Everything was perfect until mom started to ask questions. "So Cylyss what does your mom and dad do for a living?" "My mom is actually the new vice principal at our school and my dad is a b-business man." Before mom can respond to Cylyss's answer. Dad opened his mouth and said, "Very interesting. What type of business does he run?" She plays with her rings, "He owns an antique shop on Rose street."He continues to grill her, "Is it successful?" taking sips of wine. Cylyss started to fidget with her hands. "Umm the shop has seen better days." He puts the glass down, "So your mom is fine with a man who makes less than half of what she makes." She starts getting angry "My dad takes care of us just fine." Dad smirks, "You guys are barely making it by." He said chuckling through his teeth. "my mom's hard earned money pays off the bills."

I can see that Cylyss was uncomfortable with the questions that were being asked. "Dad I think Cylyss financial situation is none of our business." He sits back defensively, "I'm just trying to get to know our guest that you have invited into my house without the permission of your mother and I. Next time you'll think twice about doing something like that." She starts getting up, "I think I'm going to head out." Cylyss said grabbing her coat and walking to the door. "I'll fix you a plate, knowing your situation you probably won't have a lot to eat home." I shoot mom a look and get up and grab my coat going after her.

We head out the door and I call her an Uber. While we wait for her ride, sitting on the steps. "I'm sorry about my family being full of jackasses." Cylyss looks up at me and says "At least you aren't one. I'll be fine. Thank you for dinner anyway." We sat there in silence watching snow fall. "Your birthday is coming up," I said nudging her with my elbow. She groans, "Don't remind me of how old I'm getting." I laugh, "Don't worry, your wrinkles are not that bad." She rolls her eyes and I laugh. That's when Cylyss ride showed up. I gave her a gentle kiss on the lips. "Text me when you get home." She smiles, "I will, love you." I wave, "I love you too."
