As practice was coming to an end, I saw Ace over at the bleachers. He is one nice looking chocolate boy. I understand what the ladies see in him. I jog over to him, "So, are you giving me a ride or what?" He glances at me then looks at his phone again. "Uh sure, let me just figure out where Ava is and then we'll get going."
I wonder how his talk with Cylyss went. When he and I were walking to Mario's he wasn't being his normal, goofy, self. "What happened with you and Cy after I left? You looked a little off." He brushed his waves and put his durag on, "I confronted her about the phone, she was upset about Angelina, and finally I asked her to meet me after practice. She didn't even bother to show up." He lowers his head a little. I want to give a reassuring hug, he's my best friend and shouldn't have to feel this way, but instead I shoved him, "Dude, toughen up. You're gonna let a little argument determine you relationship with Cy. Y'all are couple goals, no need to end that now." He daps me up, "Thanks dude," He then shoved me hard. Yes, it hurt, I swear this guy has super strength. "And don't push me," He smiles.
Ava ran up to us. I haven't seen her at all today. "Hey, I'm ready to leave. Mom's here." I look at her and smile, "Hey girl, I haven't seen you today, I was hoping we would have art together." His sister is a natural at art stuff. She draws like her life depends on it. When things didn't go her way last year, somewhat because of Angelina, a switch went off and she basically did a 180 on everyone and everything. Drinking and partying wasn't her jam then all of a sudden it was. She giggles, "oh yeah, well junior year does get hectic so seeing me won't be as easy as last year."
As we all pile into their moms car, I noticed that Mrs. Lockwood had on a cute button up, minimal jewelry, and glasses. "Hey, Mrs. Lockwood!" She smiles, "Hey Draper, hope you're not getting into any trouble." "Who me? Of course not." Athena Lockwood, unlike her husband Andre, she is a very sweet woman. She's like a second mom that goes the extra mile. "Try not to be a womanizer this year, those girls will only mess with your chances at scholarships. I keep trying to tell Ace but he's not the best listener." He groans and rolls his eyes.
"Oh hush. Anyway, would you like to come over for dinner tonight?" "Yes, that would be great." She pulls into my driveway and I wave as they start driving off. Dinner should be interesting. With the Lockwoods, let's just say it's never boring. And their maid, Nina, always has tea. Dinner tonight should be eventful.
As I ran up the stairs towards my room. I started to think of an outfit. I start the shower and hear my dad yelling at my mom. I hear bits and pieces of their argument. "Shut up, I don't care what you think about my drinking!" I hear glass being shattered. "Well think about Logan then, don't you care about him!" I hear a body slam against the wall. "Care about him, he's not my son. We adopted him because your stupid ass lost the first one. I'll give him up in a heartbeat Rhonda! The same way I should've left you in the dirt a while ago!" With that I hear the drunk finally leave the house to drink more.
Derek and Rhonda adopted me when I was 4. Derek is never sober and I mean NEVER. Rhonda cares a bit more. After her miscarriage she found out she couldn't have kids and got me. She smokes and drinks, just not enough to go wild on me. When I graduate and get in the NFL, I'll get mom far away from him. As far as possible.
