If I shut my eyes tight enough,
The sound of the air conditioner will cease
Along with the sound of the voices in the room.

If I press my ears to the ground long enough,
The earth will sound like a hollow shell
With nothing at all inside.

Maybe I'll disappear if nothingness continues.
Maybe my body will disappear into the void,
And I'll be happy.
And I'll be brave.

Are these the words you tell yourself
Before you plan to die?
Do you find peace in the nothingness you never sought?
I wonder sometimes about bleeding it all out,
Leaving a message so both that these words
Are far worse than empty threats.

If I shut my eyes tight enough,
Do you think I can find peace in empty?
