Chapter 14 ~ Risky Surgeries

Meredith has been in surgery for at least 4 hours now. Amelia is waiting outside for an update. She thinks she's starting to go insane. She decides to go in and check in, and when she walks in, Mer is coding. "Tom what happened? You do realize that she is coding right now, right!?" Amelia yells at him. "It's okay. I know what I'm doing and you know that. Now stay outside. Family isn't allowed in here." Tom says, but Amelia stays put. "Amelia, I'm going to ask you super nicely so that you can't refuse it. Please, leave the OR. Whatever happens in here should stay in here for the time being. I'm only trying to protect you." Amelia finally walks out of the OR. Koracick gets the bleed under control and Mer stops coding. Amelia goes to the mini church they have at the hospital and lights a candle. She gets paged to the ER so she goes to distract herself from everything else.
"Her heart probably can't handle another surgery in this condition." Maggie says. Andrew starts to worry. "Let me see the films please." Andrew asks. He looks at them and sees that they aren't too good. He looks at Mer. She's awake but she's relying on the ventilator to breathe and she wants to be kept on the vent until she can breathe on her own. She's thinking about Andrew and her kids. She has a pen and pad of paper so she can talk to Andrew or ask Owen about her upcoming surgeries. Her injuries were worse than Andrew's. Owen says that she may need at least two more surgeries until she can get back on her feet again. Andrew keeps saying that the important thing is that her Alzheimers is still ages away and that he's glad that she remembers her again. Alex and Maggie are saying that Mer's heart needs to get stronger before she can undergo another major surgery. And during this whole thing, Mer is thinking about when she can see her kids. She needs Zola to know that her mommy is okay so Zozo can tell Bailey and Ellis that their mommy is going to be fine. She needs to tell Zola. Mer needs to see Zola. Her favorite memory of them is when she told the kids about her dating Andrew. She loved Zola's reaction. When she said "Can he leave his guitar at home?" it was the cutest.
