Chapter 15 ~ For Better or For Worse

Meredith needs another surgery but her heart is still too weak. Andrew goes out to buy something for Mer while she's stuck in the hospital. He gets back and asks her a question, "Mer, I know we haven't been dating for that long, but when I'm sure of something, I know that I need to keep it around for as long as possible. Meredith Grey, you have already made me that happiest man ever, but will you do me the honor of making me even happier by being my wife?" "Andrew... you shouldn't be doing this while I'm stuck in a hospital bed. Are you 100% sure about this?" Mer replies. "Absolutely. I love your kids and you know that they love me too, so that one checks out." They both laugh. "You are so perfect that I can't even describe how perfect you are. I am 1000% sure that I want to be your husband." Andrew's words start making her melt. He gets down on one knee and asks again. "Meredith Grey, will you marry me?" "Yes! I will marry you!" Owen, Amelia, Maggie, Alex, Jo, and others start clapping from outside the room. Owen comes in and congratulates the happy couple. Meredith is so overwhelmed that she starts to code again. Her heart was too weak for celebrations. Owen shocks her three times, nothing. "Charge to 350! Clear!" Andrew says, stealing the defibrillators from Owen. Andrew gets her back. "So I propose to you and you show your excitement by almost dying? Thanks for letting me know beforehand Mer." He laughs. "Sorry, but I had to do something." she replies.
Six months have passed and Mer is out of the hospital and she is perfectly fine. Today is the day that she says "I do" in front of all of her friends and Andrew's family. "Wow you look gorgeous Mer." Alex said, walking into her room. "Deluca is a very lucky man." "Thank you Alex. And thanks for being the one to walk me down the aisle, I really appreciate it." Mer responds. "I'm your person, of course I'm going to walk you down and hand you off to Andrew." Mer smiles as he says that. "What are you smiling at?" "You said that you're my person." Mer has a huge smile on her face now. Alex never really thought of being her person until Cristina left for Zurich. Mer has said it multiple times, but he's never said it before. It makes sense that she smiles at those words coming out of his mouth. "You ready for this? I mean we could run to my car right now and make it to the airport within the next hour. Maybe go to San Francisco." Alex asked. "No Alex. I love Andrew and he loves me. I'm not doing that getaway car thing again. I've done it too many times. Amelia did it when she was marrying Owen, Cristina almost did it when she was about to marry Burke. I'm done with the getaway car. This love that I have with Andrew is real and if it means walking down an aisle in a white dress with my person handing me off to my love, I will do it. My post it wedding with Derek was real. He loved me so much that he didn't care if we had a huge wedding or not." Alex froze when she said this. She really loves Andrew and that's all he cares about.
