22 Spliffs on a Space Cake
Fairy lights trailed along the outskirts of the room and draped down in all four corners. The surface of the dressers were lit up by dozens of candles that radiated its warm light around a little picnic corner. A light blue blanket played seat for two plates of spicy rice with chicken strips and two glasses of red sweet wine. In a black box decorated with doodles and messages held 22 spliffs and lighter with an imprint of a wolf. The enchanting smell of dragon’s blood incense circulates the room as the crescent moon reaches its highest point. I can picture the room in my head as I speed down the freeway, peddle to the floor trying to reach you as soon as I can. Each second in your presence is a gift so rare that I would stop the universe dead in its tracks just to savour it. My nerves tense up as I check the time and wonder if Giselle has managed to successfully kidnap you.
Today is the day of your birth, the day God started our story. On this day he has sent down to the earth a human whose soul sticks together every damaged and broken piece within me and I would spend lifetimes showing him my appreciation. I needed something eternal, something that could not be thrown away or broken or tainted by the touch of another. And so I named a star after you but no star shines brighter than the light that resides in your heart. I pull up to the pick-up zone and like a fairy God mother Giselle has you blindfolded standing calmly next to her. I unlock the doors and wink at Giselle as you start to giggle, “Like I don’t know the sound of your car or the slight scent of weed in it!” I was caught, but of course I was caught, even you must have known deep down inside that I would not let this day pass without some intervention.
Although caught out I managed not to make even the slightest of squeaks as you fiddle with my ear and poke my cheeks and ruffle my hair. I am surprised you chose to keep the blind fold on and I found the thought of you picturing my face in your head comforting. I take your hand in mine and without resistance your hold on tight, interlocking your fingers with mine. A sense of numbing tingles flow up my spine as I feel your fingers lock in an out of mine and I could not ignore the pulsing heat that radiated from your touch. I blushed at the effect you are having on me and it feels as though I have been waiting for this moment my entire life. You trail your fingers up my arm and to my neck and I grip the steering wheel tighter as I try to lasso my mind back to earth. You start to play with my hair and the places where you rest your arm start to heat up. I have always been a controlled person who is able to lock away any thoughts or actions that need be but oh there was just something pure and raw and uncut that allowed an overflow of passion to consume me. It was in the way your skin made mine a new, the way I could feel our shared urge to get closer, to break away even the smallest spaces between us. Your touch was like a channel through which all your emotions flow through and I was the honoured receiver.
We got closer to your present and I had to move forward away from your touch in order to keep us alive on the road. You laughed out loud as though you could hear my every thought and I wished that you weren’t blinded so I could catch your eye. I pulled into the driveway and looked towards the door and back at you reaching for your blind fold. “No! Not yet please, just a little while longer.” I could feel you rolling your eyes behind the fold and I could only imagine how anxious you were. I open the door and reach out to me. The sight of you reaching to me so trustingly warmed my heart, although it scared me to think of how I too have handed over my trust to you as though it were a spliff. I take your hand in mine and wrap an arm around your waist as you suddenly swirl around throwing your arms around my neck and pulling me closer. I kiss your head and whisper teasingly into your ear “let’s try to make it into the room first.” You break away from me and reached for your fold again but I stop you just in time. “Room? What room? What are you up to?” you demand and I could tell you were getting nervous. I chuckle as I could only imagine what is going through your mind right now. “Calm down.” I gently pull you closer and kiss your cheek. “trust me.” I lock our hands together and you grip my arm as I lead you to the door. I open the door and before I could tell you to remove your fold, you have already thrown it to the floor. I reach to pick up the fold and you bullet pass me. I roll my eyes, “just too curious hey speedy.” I follow after you and find you standing still looking around at the room. I hold my breath as I wait for a reaction but you don’t say a word.
Instead you start screaming, you turn around and grip my arm and pull me down to the picnic. Your excitement ripples out in layers of clapping hands and holding your forehead to punching my arm and calling me an idiot. You didn’t know where to look so your eyes roamed every inch of the room and soaked in even the smallest of details. “Do you like it?” I ask as I reach for the wine. “I have no words. It’s beautiful.” I open the wine and start to pour some in your glass as I take in the different emotions on your face. “Happy Birthday.” You looked me in the eye and I could see you starting to tear up. Although I knew the tears stemmed from your joy I would not risk this moment turning into tears of sadness so I hand you the glass and place a finger over my mouth. “We don’t have much time so I need to show you something.” I wake up and blow out the candles leaving one on and turn off the fairy lights. I move to the counter to a small circular black machine and turn it on. The ceiling lit up with the projection of the stars. I heard you gasp in shock before you let out a squeal. I pick up the one candle I left on, opened the dresser and pulled out an envelope. I carefully walk over to you and sit down beside you. I hand you the envelope and hover the candle over it. “Go on, open it.” You look at me for a few seconds and back at the envelope.
With shaking hands you open the envelope and read the certificate. “I know you can’t keep the certificate but that doesn’t matter because in the sky shines a star that belongs to you and only you my shining star.” Your eyes full with tears and fear build inside of me as I pray those tears do not turn into sorrow. I begin to mumble like an idiot. “We can even find the star with the co-ordinates, and we could hire a telescope one day if we have the chance somehow. I just wanted to get you a gi- suddenly I feel your hand behind my head and your sweet breath on my temple as you move your lips to my ears. “Thank you.” You whisper and in that moment I felt your grace surround my heart. “Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.” You keep whispering in between kisses on my head and cheeks and temples. Then suddenly you grip my hair and I feel your lips graze against mine and it pulls all my attention to the direction of your breath. My body feels as though there is a layer of numbness surrounding me just waiting to complete the connection. I close my eyes and let you guide me along this enchantment. With your other hand you grip onto my collar and pull me even closer, I can feel the build-up roaring inside of me.
Your lips hover over my neck and I hear and feel your breath shake as I lightly blow along yours. This sends me spiralling over the edge into a frenzy when suddenly our lips crash together. I’m freefalling into a cataclysm of emotions; yours and mine injecting into every pore, controlling every kiss, every bite, every nibble and every touch. Not even the most potent triple A could bring me to this height. “Hey,” she whispered in a husky voice and moved her hand to my shoulder. “I’m sorry,” I whispered back as I thought I may have pushed too far. “Don’t be.” You say as you crash right back into me pulling me harder against you. You break away again, eyes half closed, breathing escalated as you try to speak again. “Maybe we shouldn’t rush” you say as you bite your lip trying not to look at mine. “Yeah maybe,” I just managed to get the words out before pulling you back to me this time landing with you on top of me. You move straight to my neck and I know whatever self control I had, well I’ve completely handed over to this girl. The smell of your hair and the softness of your skin melt away any will power I had left. My fingers gently claw down your back and you let out a little moan that sent realization shooting down onto us. “Holy shit.” You wake up off of me, forcing yourself to tear away from me. “I’m so sorry.” You say with your eyes closed and then without any warning, a smile, filled of joy that I’ve never seen before spread over your face. You bite your lip again as if to say ‘damn’. We both calmed ourselves down after ten minutes and I headed for the bathroom to splash some cold water on my face. I turned towards the door and you were leaning against the frame, eyes fixed on me. It took everything in me not to pin you up against the wall and I had to shut my eyes and thoughts.
“Well I certainly never expected that,” you trail your way into the bathroom and I’ve only just calmed down. “Neither did I.”
This post is dedicated to you on your special day beautiful! This is what I would have done for your birthday :)
