Another battle broke out in New York.  Tony was not surprised to say the least.  Fortunately, they had Stephen on the team to help out along with Peter, T'challa, Shuri, Scott and Hope.  Today's villain was a woman dressed in silver silk and had a golden brown crown on her head.  She claimed that Earth was in the way of her Kingdom, Siltervace.  She wanted to make humanity slaves for her or destroy Earth.  Obviously, the Avengers were called to deal with it.

Tony flew over to Peter and Scott, trying to help them take her down.  She didn't even have an army or help, she was just frighteningly powerful.  Steve, Nat, and Clint all attempted to attack her from the back, but were unsuccessful.  Stephen strikes her left and right, carefully watching from the air.  Tony flies up to him.

"How are we doin up here?"  Tony almost gets cut in half by a laser from the woman.

"Decent.  Her name is Silvalec.  She seems to be some type of god or something similar."  Tony pushes Stephen out of the way of a sliver colored blast.  The two powerful heroes battle back to back, looking out for each other.  Thor tries to hit her with Stormbreaker, and manages to actually land a hit.  However, it barely fazed Silvalec.

It only encouraged her to try harder.  Hulk throws Hope across the battlefield as she shrinks, watching her crawl up Silvalec's body.  She punches her, grows big, and wraps her legs around her neck, choking her out.  Steve and Thor rush over before being blasted back by the villain.

"Hope's down.  We need back up."  Nat calls into her comm.

Scott stops fighting to attend to Hope.  "I'm backup."  It was Shuri.  Shuri got in a couple of hits, but they were reflected back on her.  T'challa sprints up, clawing at Silvalec.  He gets thrown backwards.  "Oof.  He got yeeted."  Peter announced.  "Yeeted indeed." Shuri replied.

"Will you two stop?  This is serious."  Steve complained.

"They're just kids."  Tony and Stephen said in unison.  "Speaking of kids, isn't Maximoff supposed to be here?"

"She's on a mission with Danvers.  She'll be back in a week or so."  Clint answered

"This isn't working.  We need to do something else."  Scott pitched.

"We're trying.  It's not working."  Nat responded.

Tony, Stephen, Thor, Peter, and Scott all jumped onto Silvalec.  They did a combination of fight styles.  Thor and Scott get thrown off.  Luckily, Tony, Peter, and Stephen were nimble enough to stay on her.  She lashes out, throwing odd shaped spikes at them.  Peter gets struck with one.  "Peter!"  Tony screamed, floating down to where Peter laid.

Tony grabs him, checking out his wounds.  "I'm fine Mr. Stark."  Behind them, Silvalec notices them not paying attention to the battle going on around them.

"TONY!"  Cap yells from the other side of the battlefield.  "LOOK OUT!"  Silvalec throws about a billion sliver spikes.  Tony tries to block Peter from getting hit.  He braces himself, but no pain came.  He looked up to see Stephen with a enormous shield, keeping them safe.

"Hurry!  I can't hold it much longer."  Tony grabs Peter, rushing away from the spikes.

"C'mon Stephen."  He chants under his breath.  The shield breaks.  "STEPHEN!"  Tony sprints to Stephen's lifeless body.  Peter's by his side in an instant.  "Hey, hey.  You're okay.  I'm here.  Stay with me, alright?  Pull through."  Tony orders Stephen, his voice breaking.

"Don't lie to me."  Stephen rasped.  "I did this for you two."  Peter begins choking on his own sobs.  Tony pulls him close, tears streaming down his face.

"Please don't leave me.  Don't leave us.  Please, honey."  Stephen smiled sadly.  The light goes out in his eyes.  Tony lets out a sob.  He holds Peter close.  Silvalec continues fighting, but using all those spikes weakened her.

Thor and T'challa end up killing Silvalec.  All the Avengers stand around Tony and Peter, processing that indeed, Stephen Strange was gone.  "Tony, I'm sorry."  Rhodey told them.  Hulk shrinks back to Bruce.

"Wha-"  He realizes what happened.  "Oh God."

"Tony, I'm sorry, but we need to head home."  Cap informs.  Tony shakes his head.  Peter doesn't move.

"We can't leave him.  I can't.  Please, Steve.  Listen."  Tony whispers.

"We have to go.  He's gone."  Nat affirms.

"You don't think I know that Romanoff?"  Tony spat.

Thor carefully and gently picks Peter up.  "No!  I won't leave him!  Stop!"  Thor brings him into the Quinjet to calm him down.

"Tony, come on."  Cap softly commands.  He hoists Tony up.  "NO! STOP!  STEPHEN!  I NEED HIM!"  Tony makes an effort to stop Cap, leaving a bruise on his left side of his forehead.  He stops struggling.  All the fight has left his body.  He just couldn't do it.

They all get on the Quinjet in silence.  Cap sets Tony down next to Peter.  Sam, Cap, Bucky, Nat, and Rhodey all discuss what to do with them.  Someone needed to stay with them at all times.  Who knows what they would do to themselves, especially Tony.  Rhodey and Cap offered to stay with them.  Everyone agreed, since they were two of the most responsible team members.  Other than Nat, of course.

It was Peter's summer break, so he had lots of spare time to mope around the Compound.  Tony was in charge of watching him while Aunt May was on a vacation for once in her life, so the two grieving Avengers had plenty of time on their hands.  Tony took some time off from any and all Stark Industries work.  Rhodey was mainly there for Tony during this time, with Cap occasionally popping up.

Today was one of the worst days.  Tony was on the brink of suicide.  He'd already cut himself before. Rhodey walked in just in time and vowed to never keep his eye off him.  Tony had even bigger bags under his eyes than usual, and he didn't know how that was possible.  His daily thoughts consisted of Stephen, Peter, and pain.  In that order.

Peter had been invited over to Ned's countless times, and declined every time.  The only thing that really brought him happiness was seeing how concerned Tony was about him.  That he cared.  He usually put on a charade around Tony.  He was coping, he was fine.  Sad, but fine.  What hurt almost as much as Stephen's death was Tony's reaction to it.

He never took care of himself, never smiled unless Peter was around, it was a fake smile anyway.  He never, ate, drank, or slept.  At least Peter made an effort to care for himself.

Peter had fallen asleep on Tony while they were watching some random show.  Tony wanted to cry again.  Peter had such a hard life.  It was all his fault.  In time, he fell asleep for the first time in weeks.  The next day he woke up to another Stephen-less day.  Another painful day.
