I couldn't get to Owl until this bear was gone. None of us could get to him, actually. Because the bears were protecting him. Like he was their meal, being defended.
"He isn't dead, he isn't dead!" I screamed, punching the bear. But it wouldn't bleed, at all. Finally, I dug my fingers into it's shoulder and pulled, making the fur rip downward.
Then I saw something that didn't belong in a bear.
Metal.
Technology.
"They're robots!" I yelled to the others, kicking the Robo-Bear in the eye. It cracked in the middle, and it's red color went dim. I kicked the other one, and then it was blind. "Kick their eyes until the go dim!"
The others paused, and then complied. All three bear's tried to swat, and couldn't. But their noses twitched frantically and their ears swerved.
"Ivy, make vines go down their ears!" She winced, probably thinking how much that would hurt. But I turned my bear so she could see the technology inside. Then she remembered they weren't real bears and did it eagerly.
"And Rain, make huge hails go in their noses!"
Rain made six huge hail balls float in front of her, and one by one, made them fly into the bears' nostrils. They tried to claw at their noses and ears, but Ivy glued their legs to the ground with vines.
Then we rushed to Owl, who still wasn't moving. "Owl, Owl, wake up!" I started to do CPR, which I was excellent at. You know, smartest brain ever and all. Finally, Owl gasped and started coughing. I let out a breath and gently sat him up, careful not to touch the wounds.
"W-what happened?" he croaked.
I was able to smile with relief. "You sound like crap," I observed. He looked up at me.
"Three robot bears attacked you," Ivy said calmly.
"Do you remember anything?" Rain asked.
Owl didn't speak for a minute, and when he did, his voice wavered. "I remember coming to the stream. And then those three-" he pointed to the struggling beasts "-wandered up, and I tried to talk to them. They sniffed me at first, and then their eyes turned red and they attacked me and dragged me here. I've never been unable to calm an animal before!" Owl's eyes were wide and confused.
"They were robots, Owl. Possibly controlled by the Black Jackets, I think," Rain said quietly.
"We're going to call them Robo-Bears," I said, biting my lip. "And if the Black Jackets are behind this, then there are other animals with robotic insides. We have to be careful of the Robo-Animals."
The others nodded, but then I realized Ivy was hovering over Owl, running her fingers along the wounds.
"Look, I think I have a new power," she said excitedly. She pressed her finger on a long gash, and, continuing to press her skin on the cut, ran her finger down it. The gash closed under her touch, becoming nothing but a thin, red line.
"Ivy, oh my god!" I ran over to her watched as she closed all the gashes, long and short, thick and thin, deep and shallow.
"This is amazing," she breathed.
"Does it hurt?" Shadow asked Owl.
Owl shook his head. "No, it kind of tickles, actually," he said, grinning.
Ivy finished, and Owl stood, wiggling his fingers and rubbing his arms and legs. He smiled at Ivy and practically pranced over to me. "Where to now, Bookie?"
I almost burst out laughing. He had almost just died, and now he wanted to go on a big adventure? Wow. "Um, we're going to the cave, and um, we'll be there for the next month."
"Next month? How do you know?" Zip asked.
"I think Owl's near death experience lengthened my visions to around a month," I said, grinning proudly.
"Makes sense. Should we all have near death experiences to lengthen them, then?" Shadow asked, grinning.
I gave him a hard stare. "Um, definitely not."
He pretended to frown and be upset. I clapped my hand over his black hair and rolled my eyes. "No."
"Can we go back to the cave now? I think it's lunch time now," Rain asked, her stomach rumbling.
I laughed. "Yeah, we can."
