When I woke up, four faces were peering down at me. I groaned and stood, rubbing my eyes as if just having woken from a peaceful sleep. Peaceful? Yeah right.
"Bookie?" Zip whispered, helping me to stand.
"Yeah?" I responded groggily.
"Look." I looked at her, and saw her pointing finger. Reluctant, I followed it. I saw the five dead Robo-Animals. But when I looked past that, I saw Ivy. She was bound in a chair, her hands and feet both wrapped tightly to it. The gag was still in her mouth, and her eyes were covered. She was behind a glass wall, which we could break after I got my bearings. Her long, brown hair was a tangle, and her clothes were wrinkled.
"Ivy," I whispered, tears springing to my eyes. I knew why her eyes were covered. Ivy didn't need her hands to grow things. If her hands were bound, she could use her eyes. But if both her hands and eyes were bound, she couldn't use her gift.
We desperately needed her second gift. We were all seriously damaged. I couldn't feel either hands or my left foot, making me limp. I had deep scratches and bite marks from where the leopard had managed to hit me. Owl had two long scrapes down his arm, from where the gorilla had raked its fangs down it. I really needed to talk about his new gift with him, after we rescued Ivy. Zip had broken and bloody hands, like me, and huge bruises all over. Rain had claw markes, bites, and a gash on her forehead. Shadow had bite marks, smallish claw marks, and an imprint of a wolf paw from where the wolf had somehow stepped on him on his leg. The print went at least two inches down, and was seeping blood.
I limped forward and started to smash the window. "Bookie!" Zip called, making me walk back. I looked over to Owl, and he nodded. Rough gray skin covered his, he grew taller and longer. A horn. A small tail. I found myself looking at a rhinoceros. Owl snorted, threw his head, pawed the ground, and charged. He broke the glass into a million pieces, and we rushed forward, grabbing Ivy and throwing off the bounds.
"We have to go!" I yelled before anyone could do anything. They nodded, and, dragging a limp Ivy along, we ran down the tunnel. I smashed open the second door and turned left to go around the side of De La Fancy. Rain morphed into a cloud, and we hopped on, trying not to receive too many stares from people. A woman screamed, though, and pointed. All faces turned to us as we were dropped on our balcony. We ran inside, locked the doors, drew the blinds, and sat on the carpet, staining it with our blood.
This all happened in three minutes. "They let us go!" I screamed to no one in particular. I was angry. The had captured Ivy, thrown a few animals at us to test us, and then let us go! I screamed again. It hurt to much, though, and I stopped.
"Ivy," I croaked. But she was already heading to me. I shook my head. "Others first." Ivy hesitated, and then nodded, going to Zip.
"Can you fix broken bones?" Zip asked quietly, holding her hands out.
"I can fix anything now, Zip," was the response. Ivy quickly fixed up Zip, and then Rain, and Then Shadow, and then Owl, and then came to me. I stood so it was easier to see all of my injuries. She mended my broken foot and hands first, and then went to my cuts and gashes. When she was done, she looked a bit tired, but not too overwhelmed.
"We're going to Montana," I declared after watching a quick vision. They nodded and, since we had to belongings, all went out to the balcony.
Owl morphed into a hawk. Before he did, though, he said, "It won't be as much weight for Rain, and I've always wanted to fly." He had grinned like an idiot and took off, waiting for us. Rain was tired, so she made herself be a smallish cloud, and we all packed tightly together.
We flew off with thousands of faces staring at us and tens of thousands of mouths screaming at us.
