The world of red and black crumbled, forming what seemed to have been my room as the ground before me grazes my feet once more. Ben carefully let go of my wrist, a red mark forming at the place he had grasped.

He paced around the room solemnly, with each stop he took, he gazes at me; opens his mouth to say something, but immediately shuts it close and paced once more. When he repeated the exact motion over seven times, I groaned and demanded him to speak already.

He stopped pacing all together and stared at me with his dull red eyes. No twinkle of joy or shimmer of excitement present and evident in his black and red eyes. His lips formed a thin straight line instead of his usual teasing smirk. He remained stagnant as he stared lifelessly at me.

"Am I.. hurting you?" He inquired in an undertone, and I could've sworn my heart broke at the tone of his voice.

As soothing as I could muster, I told him, "No, Ben. Of course not."

"Then why'd you leave?"

Silence barged into the room uninvited. Looming over the two of us, teasing me with each ring it made in my ears as I stayed wordless of explanation.

"Why did you tell me you can't do it? What can't you do exactly, Asriel?" Ben pushed on, the silence continued to mock me as no words formed at the tip of my tongue.

I couldn't think of a reason. No, I couldn't tell him the reason. It's too.. Too..

Scary?

No.

Terrifying?

No..

Frightening?

Now you're just throwing out synonyms and no! It wasn't all of those. It was just.. Just—

Terrifying to be rejected.

My body tensed at the thought as I stared helplessly at the blonde wraith who seemed just as lost as me.

"What aren't you telling me, Asriel?" Ben lamented, a dark shadow continued to loom over his black and red eyes.

It's not that I'm afraid of rejection.

Liar.

It's just too early to profess something that was meant to last forever..

LIeSsS..

"What aren't you telling me, Ben?" I shot the question back, digging my foot into the floor; standing on my ground as I gaze into his clouded eyes.

"What're you.. This isn't about me, Asriel." He argued, looking more frustrated than he had before. "This is about you and that scene you made earlier."

"That may be true. But what aren't you telling me? Who was he that died, Ben?"

His shoulder tensed as his gaze was immediately sent casting downwards. The atmosphere succumbed into a sorrowful air as his bright red orbs bleared with tears. His fists shook as his chest rose and fall slowly.

"Never. Speak of him again." He told me through gritted teeth, but I remained my ground.

"Why not?"

He snapped his gaze to mine, his eyes seething with rage and sorrow as he barked, "Don't. Push it. Lynch."

I winced and glowered at the blonde wraith. "It's Jordan-Lynch." I corrected, snarling at him as he snarled back.
