"She LIVES here!?" Dr. Gaster's voice boomed throughout the entire mansion. He had his entire body turned, his back facing me as he craned his neck to meet Slenderman's figurative eyes.
"Yes, she resides in this mansion as it is too dangerous for her to stay in the open." Slenderman informed him calmly, but it only angered the doctor even more.
"This is idiotic! What makes you think that it would not stir any suspicion?" He sneered, but Slenderman never once lost his poise.
"I did not. But I would rather cause suspicion than have her ambushed while out in the open."
"What about her family?" Dr. Gaster snarled, arms raised and flailing for exaggeration and my ears perked up just then. My family..?
"What makes you think they won't find them?"
"They won't." Slenderman answered vaguely, emitting a growl from the doctor.
"What makes you think they won't find them, Slenderman?" Dr. Gaster asked more threateningly this time, a quick flash of gold and blue reflected on Slenderman's suit as Dr. Gaster still faced him.
"Because they are too busy searching for me."
Dr. Gaster's poise softened just then, his clenched fists releasing itself as his shoulders slouched. "You don't mean—"
"Slender, what're you—" Ben was interjected as Slenderman raised a palm.
"I do not mean anything. I simply stated that they are looking for me, as they should. So worrying about the Proxy's family is highly unnecessary."
"You did it again, didn't you?" Dr. Gaster snarled once more, but there was a tinge of softness in his tone this time.
"Did what?" I inquired, letting them know that I was still here. They were silent after that, and I repeated what I said.
"Use a portion of his immortal life to protect." Ben answered solemnly, his eyes casted to the floor.
"It's suicide."
"It's what will keep them safe—"
"BY KILLING YOURSELF?" Dr. Gaster roared, the entire mansion trembling on his tone, Ben stood alert by my side. An arm raised in front of me, an act of protection through sacrifice.
"It is not suicide, Gaster."
"It is." Dr. Gaster growled, his feet elevated from the ground and soon he was floating; looming over Slenderman's unusual height.
"I will not tolerate this thinking in the same way you do not tolerate Ben and I's bickering."
Slenderman shrugged, an action I never thought I'd see him do. "And I will continue to do so in the same way as you and Benjamin continue to bicker."
Dr. Gaster's eyes visibly widened, a sudden flash of emotion evident in his eyes as he glided himself down. His head hanging low, and with the softest voice I've ever heard him use, said, "I just can't afford to lose you, too."
My heart squeezed in on itself as Slenderman tensed at Dr. Gaster's words. "Gaster, I—"
"Bring the child back home, Slenderman." Dr. Gaster spoke with authority reeking his tone, his eyes glared into Slenderman, his teeth barred as he added, "I mean it." And then he was gone. Leaving a rather uncomfortable atmosphere.
—
It had been exactly five days since I was released back into reality, residing once more with humanity.
